Anaplasmosis
One of our GSP's was just diagnosed with anaplasmosis...most likely came from hunting down south in WI this year. Just a heads up that, from what I hear, this is becoming more prevalent in northern WI. I use Frontline and vaccinate for lymes because we go south to tickland, but it sure didn't stop t...

I really like the method Hickox uses with the kennel to collar condition. It can be found on just about any of his videos and I have used it on three dogs with good results.
No birds or anything hunting involved and you teach the dog to kennel on command.

Don't give up hope.
I had the unfortunate luck of living through 2 of my hunting companions last dogs in the Lakes States Region this year and each time the dogs showed up a week later.
Wishing you the best that the dog will be picked up.

Annual Pheasant Hunt - Pics Addes
This weekend was the annual pheasant hunt...sadly, it usually marks the end of the upland season for us due to the cold and snow but it was a good time nonetheless: The Mrs. and Gunner: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-8/1318327/PHEASANTS3.JPG Gunner and I: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-8/1...

My female GSP has picked up on that sound.
I watched her stop on point this year and then look 15 feet up in the tree when the bird starting making the noise.

Thanks for the mojo folks.
Nutmeg was found, very tired and hungry, seven miles from where she was lost last Monday!
Needless to say, my Brother-in-law is relieved.

My brother-in-law lost a 7 year old English Setter who answers to Nutmeg in the Merrill/Tomahawk (New Wood) area this afternoon. She ran off, even through the e-collar when we got into a mess of birds and didn't come back. She is wearing a green tri-tronics e/beeper collar that is turned on and she ...

I have a 10 yr old GSP we recently brought to our home this summer. He came to us a bit overweight but he took off a good 10 lbs prior to the hunting season thanks to a ton of swimming and running with the other dogs. On the first weekend of the grouse season we hunted three days straight and he saw...

Bird number seemed to be about the same as last year...maybe down a bit but too early to tell.
Had 10 points that produced 14 grouse and 3 woodcock for 8 hours of hunting.
I have to think of some excuses for my 1 for 5 shooting today...it must have been all the leaves on the trees!

Hunted Northeast WI for the opener and it was hit or miss...typical early season where is you find one, you find three and then you go two hours between finds. My friend who is a pro trainer has always told me..."you can take it out of them, but you can't put it in them"...this saying usually applies to the total package of drive, desire, etc. However, I could see how it could apply to range as it has been my experience that a dog can be brought "in" but i...

I am looking to see if anyone uses some form of supplement to prevent future joint problems in their dogs.
I was eyeballing the Annamet Endure that LCS sells and it is marketed as a supplement to prevent future joint problems.
Any thoughts?

Last Day of Michigan Grouse Hunting...at least for us
Today marked our last day of hunting this year. There was about 10 inches of snow on the ground but it was crusty halfway under from a previous freeze-thaw so I wasn't sure what to expect.
