In my experience, as a woodcock bander, woodcock do put out scent while nesting.

On Saturday my "go to" dog set a hen and when I walked up on him, he was only 3 feet from the bird staring the hen down, so there may be some validity to the theory...something to look for this spring.

One thing I like to do is only shoot every so often to keep the dog honest. Maybe one or two over the course of a week IMO.

Shooting too many birds in training makes the dog think that he/she is always going to get the bird...then they start cheating.

How long are you leaving the collar on the dog?

I have only experienced this once and it was on a week long hunt in SD 8 years ago where I had the collar on the dog all during the hunting day for 5 days of hunting.

I have found that the neutered ones will squat for quite some time...of course, some of mine have also been known to turn and crap on trees, so I really have no idea.

I would say that it is nothing to really worry about and I'm with dudleysmith...enjoy it while you can.

What are y'all using for a field carrying case for your Astro 220's?

I looked at the LCS case but it lloks kind of flimsy and the Garmin case for the GPS 60CSX looks like it wont fit the 220 due to the antenna.

I will never use those cotournix after a bad experience 3 years ago...almost ruined a dog because they just do not fly good.
