I have 2 crates set up in the back of my durango at all times, and when traveling with all the dogs, fold down the back seat and put 2 more crates back there so everyone is confined. My escort has 1 crate set up in the back seat all the time. I have enough crates to have 2 set up in the house, 1 in...

what do you guys/gals do as far as transporting your dogs? Right now we have a crate that I am transferring from the house where he sleeps/is kept during the day to my truck every afternoon when I take him for a run. Unfortunately I have to drive to the closest fenced in area. I have seen dog seat b...

We got a pup (Sammy) from the same litter at the end of November. He is a wonderful puppy and my first bird dog. I'm so glad you found his brother. Picking between those two was so difficult and I often wondered where the other went. If your pup is anything like Sammy, he will be crazy for birds of...

Thanks for that, now if I can get my brain cell to wake up I'll start trying to memorize it! Bill --- "One toot and yer oot !!!" --- As you train, hunt and compete your dog, all these acronyms and terms will make sense when you see them in action. Rather than trying to list everything we can ...

glossary of terms

Is there anything available on the site that would give new people a glossary of terms/abbreviations and meanings? Some stuff is easy to pick up but I find myself either constantly searching for old posts or googling stuff like "broke" "brace" "nstra", etc.....

P.S. Member tsmoney (sp?) just got a 3.5 month old Brittany. Maybe he will post his experience as a behavior benchmark for you - i.e. how it is adjusting in the home. yep, and this is about the first time i've had online since we've brought him home on wed. haha so far it has been pretty much gone ...

I think Marsha had said she was getting a male or two from that breeding that she might sell. I don't think it was her litter.
correct, he's one of the puppies she got from that breeding. Dam is Teela4, sire is Marjo's Red Rum

Congratulations! What breeding did you go with? Sounds like you may have gotten a littermate of Ginger based upon age and who you were talking to. actually we didn't, they had 2 other puppies who were a couple weeks older than Ginger and her littermates and we took one of them. Now I have that nerv...

finally made my decision

Well after months of research and a lot of time spent on this forum reading past topics and posts my wife and I decided tonight on a puppy we met this past weekend. Thanks to all of the help from the people on this board giving me advice on breeders in my area as well as other things. We're picking ...

Gary, sent you a PM

I would have to agree with the above post, from what I've read and the people I've spoken with, JH is definitely not a bad thing, but almost meaningless when judging a dog's potential hunting ability.

Thanks for all of the ideas, its good to know that I can create a penned in area for the puppy with the necessary toys/blankets/crate and not have him or her crated for 8 hours straight during the day if it came to that. I'll still try to work on someone coming to the house during the day to let the...

Do you have someone who can come to your home to take the pup out at say around noon time? i've thought of that, i'm somewhat new to the area so my family are 30-40 minutes away. I'm still working on thinking of someone who may be able to come over, that would solve a lot of problems, but right now...

One thing you can do is get an excesise pen and make an area for the pup instead of a small crate this way she has an area to play and an area to elimonate i do like that idea, do you basically "live" with them having to go to the bathroom in their pen during the day and then use the crate at night...

general puppy question

Hey guys, I joined the site a few months ago as I'm a new hunter who got started a year or so ago and am looking to add a Brittany to my family in the near future. My family owned a Britt when I was younger but needless to say the training left a little to be desired. I'm currently doing my research...

Go with a breeder that actually spends time in the grouse woods or hunting wild pheasants in the fashion that you envision yourself doing.
Yeah, I'm seeing that's a big thing, are breeders usually honest if you flat out ask them the question, do your dogs hunt, how often, where, etc...?

What breed are you looking for and what are your plans with the dog? This forum can really help you get what you want. I'm going to be getting a Brittany. My plans are to get more involved in grouse/pheasant hunting as well as have a great companion/pet. I have experience with the breed but not in ...

\ tmoneysju, Perhaps more challenging than finding the right puppy is deciding what advice you are going to listen to. My only suggestion is that you find a breeder who is willing to take you out and hunt over the sire and dam. Then you can see for yourself how the pup will be. Let the parents sell...

FYI, in Central Jersey near Philadelphia there are two clubs that have been recommended to me to learn about training. One is the local NAVHDA chapter: http://www.delvalnavhda.com/ Another is the English Setter Club of America (other dogs are welcome too it seems): http://www.englishsetterclub.com/...

great reply, thanks a ton for the info, i'll start looking for some local clubs. also, thanks for spelling out the abbrevitions, definitely helps a newbie i guess it wouldn't be that bad to buy a pup from a little farther, could be a cool road trip. I do have a preference of being able to see the pu...

Alright, I introduced myself the other week in the welcome section, now it's time to start my research on a puppy. I've owned a brittany before and my family bought it from a breeder through a newspaper ad and the dog was not hunted. I went pheasant hunting last year for the first time with my cousi...
