Re: Programs
I was training my first birddog pup last year. I chose the Perfect Start/Finish program by Jon Hahn. We moved through the program step by step and I ended up with a pretty decent birddog. Steady to WSF by the time she was a year old without any undue pressure put on her. The secret is to make sure t...

Re: need advice
I have a friend that struggled with a dog like that for years. She finally tried a gluten free diet and the dogs hair grew in. Don't know if it would work with your or not, but might be worth looking into.

Re: Question...

It took about a week for my 1st couple posts to show up, I even contacted the website admins because I thought something was broken, lol. OP did wait a week before asking "will someone answer" & even said please  I too had the ...

Re: walking fetch to throwing marks?
I'm no expert, but when I was trying to get my dog to do long pile drives I had to back up and start really close. Maybe 10 feet. Any more than 30 feet and she was totally confused so back to 10 feet. Finally things started to click and now she is running 100 yards and enjoying it. Actually I starte...

Re: Training birds, homer's vrs ferals
I've never had feral pigeons, but I love my homers. A few young ones have fallen out of the launcher onto the ground, but once they learn how to fly it doesn't happen. It's so much fun to launch the birds and have them make it home before I do.

Re: Fat Puppies?
I'm not sure what you mean by fat, but puppies should have a little extra weight on them. Then if they get sick, they have some reserve to draw from. Of course you don't want to go overboard and have them so fat they can hardly move, but you certainly don't want them in racing weight either.

Re: Age to teach heel
This is an interesting thread. I started teaching heel to my pup at an early age. Unless your dogs spends its life in a kennel and only gets out to hunt there are so many times when heel is necessary. Heel is not natural to a GSP so it's an ongoing training theme that we have to work on a lot. Now h...

Re: Getting the dog to "play"
I don't watch many movies, but we do have one hanging around the house. It's called See Spot Run and is about a dog that doesn't know how to play. This thread reminded me of that.

Re: breaking a pup steady wing to shot when should a guy.
My pup was steady to wing & shot by 11 months. Just make sure it knows whoa really well. We underestimate our dogs and they are much more capable than we give them credit for. Don't pressure them, just lots of repetition!
