Rick,
I told my wife about this...a Gunner pup going after a porky and she said "Well, imagine that!".
Gunner was not perfect but he had NO FEAR indelibly imprinted in his DNA and it seems to be passed on to his pups.

Exactly. I have my second dog from Rick and Brenda. There are not better folks anywhere. I'm trying like the devil to "steal" my third dog from them. Don't know if I can get Donna to go for it.
Brandi is tremendous looking. Might be another great Fritz female to breed to Dez.

Doc, are they going by some official dictionary for words? If not, just tell them that they're words, not acronyms or initials.
In all seriousness, what the heck should they care as long as it fits in the number of characters?

Re: New guy with a question
One of the strengths of the GSP is the wide and deep gene pool and the different kinds of dogs out there. Look for a breeder that has a great reputation, is easy to talk to and easy to get along with. Look for dogs that are proven in the venue that you want to pursue. I have my biases as others have...

Re: New guy with a question
There is no "best GSP". What is best for one person is not best for the next. As I often say here, "there are 31 flavors of ice cream at Baskin Robbins for a reason".
Another angle: I didn't choose a dog, I chose a breeder/trainer. It's been a gift that has kept on giving.

I originally started this thread to raise awareness of the issue. I hope that it was successful.
I will stir the pot further:
My own personal ethics are such that no matter how terrific the dog, I would neither breed nor buy a dog with a known recessive gene for a fatal disease like LD.

The people/person Buckeye_V mentioned SLAMS the O/U closed. There is nothing realistic about it. Also, if done with the force that I've observed when out hunting, it would, IMHO, be a safety concern. The best thing is to keep a small coop of homing pigeons. You get young birds and "home" them in your coop. Look in the Hall of Fame Posts forum for some good info. One dog, I'd say a half-dozed birds would be fine. They don't make a lot of noise. If you take care of things, they aren't smelly. Abou...
