If you are on the road away from supplies use tooth paste it cuts the oil and smell; works great on short hairs not so sure about long thick coats.

I too have a 1 year old GSP We had a ton of fun hunting this fall. He shows some real promise but has a few faults too. When I dared to complain about them my mentor was quick to remind me he is just a pup he will figure it out; just give him quality one on one hunts. And tell the other guns to get ...

Just got back from Alberta hunting was good, more wild pheasants this year an lots of huns. I went with my new GSP pup 11month old Murphy and my veteran GSP 11 year old Arrow. Make sure one or both of the rescues are not gun shy; one of the top reasons folks give away bird dogs is because they made them gun shy.

I for one will not be buying a pup from the US. This smacks of protection fear mongering bureaucrats. When they figure out how to stop the yotes and foxes from crossing the border then maybe they might convince me.

Swim with him if you can - find a spot where he has to swim across with you (and the other dog) usually they will go if they see others headed that way. x2 I just drop them off on an island and drop anchor 30 meters off and start fishing (ignore the whining) soon they will be swimming out to you ot...

My plan is to only fire the cap gun when he has a bird on his mind.
Another thing is he comes to me when I fire a shot from a distance is that usual for a gun shy dog I always thought that gun shy dogs ran from guns and gunfire.
