Re: Pheasants
For young dogs and old hunters we always tried to have a hunter block the end/halfway point of the ditch/pivot corner This did two things it helped stop the runners and gave us a ride back from a long fast walk. As said not all dogs can handle all pheasants keep working on it it will come around. It...

Re: Idaho Forest Grouse Opener
Finally got out here in Western Wyoming, found lots of birds. Oddly, as dry as it is, the birds were not down in the creek bottoms, but up in the mixed conifer/aspen patches. My younger wirehair is proving to be a fantastic pointer. She pointed and relocated without flushing multiple times. Her ret...

Re: Puppy eating birds
14 weeks is a bit young to be worrying about chewing birds they chew everything at that age. The best way to get something out of a pups mouth is to grab it by the flank (that thin piece of skin in front of their hip) pinch hard and say release in a firm voice not a panic scream. Be quick he may try...

Well now I'm not worried about the grass anymore. The dog grabbed , ran and swallowed one of those plastic meat tray liners to day. Waiting to see if a trip to the vet is ahead. I hope it all passed. Re: Barking
Bark collar. End of story. In the house I could not agree more but the house it is not much of a problem as I can grab him quickly and he obeys promptly. The bigger problem is in the yard and the really big problem is on the river or in the bush. The other factor is we have lots of bears so having ...
Barking
It seems my 2 year old GSP is enjoying barking at people more and more it varies in intensity but he can get pretty loud when a complete stranger shows up. It really gets bad when he is surprised when we are on the river and someone comes out of the bush. Most times I can settle him down by calling ...

How far away is the fence line?
You may have to shorten up the distance with a temporary fence to get better control so you can correct quickly when the offense occurs.

Ouch! If I remember my vet said to wash the foot wounds with Salt water to help them heal. Does not look too bad; pretty hard to seal up tissue that is that thick. I would put a lewis rubber boot on him for a few days that seems to keep the wound cleaner and they don't put at much pressure on it Grant

I've had both males and females. If you plan to have to dog in the house I prefer females (spayed). They just seem to be easier to live with. Yeah, I'm not sure that's how attachment works. Try to find an Island on a lake or small river leave the dog on the island and float away slowly in the boat if the dog is like most it would rather swim than be left alone.
