Re: Training GSP to retrieve w/out FF

Does he pick the bird up or just forgets all about the dead bird, If so how does he handle cripples. I would start working him like a pup building his prey drive. Have you hunted him with other dogs? I have had poor retrievers but they would all find the downed bird just not big on retrieving it, ve...

Have you put a camera on her if so if she settles down after you leave She is just acting out if not then you need to look at the doggy day care option or maybe another dog.

Good luck

Re: Repeat Toenail Breaking

Hi there! Usually her nail cracks/splits up the toe, so we can grind off the sharp edges, but we can't actually grind out the crack since it goes the length of her toenail. The vet warned against gluing it for fear of gluing in anything that could cause infection. That said, at this point, I've con...

Re: Repeat Toenail Breaking

Have you tried using a grinder to trim the nail some nails are brittle and can crack when cut? Even though the dog is big the both of you can handle the dog make it a bonding experience. Also there are some good UV glues that could seal the cracked nail.

Running hard on empty stomach bigger risk for seizures. Been thru it several times. Won’t make that mistake again Interesting I have been feeding my dog a good breakfast in an effort to control his seizures that happen 3 or 4 times a year and almost always on an empty stomach. Re: Retrieve

I have had 2 that did just that one never did pick up a bird the other would if the other dog in the field tried to take it from her. I blame both on my inexperience and my father's need to get the grouse before the dog

Give Trekmoor's method a shot looks like a solid process.

Knock on doors of the farm house next to abandoned buildings and ask to hunt those old homesteads. Huns love old buildings, derelict machine yards etc. Also do some road scouting in the evening when they gravel up. Sorry I don't see a lot of Sharpies where I hunt so I will leave that to the other ex...
