I don't think it's all that important. Unless the dog is either running up hill or pulling weight, what good does it really do? Put him on a check cord and check cord him into the bird. Soon as he tell's you he smell's the bird, stop him. You'll want to citcle away from the bird with your end of the cord so it stays tight and you end up behind him. Then work your way up the cord to him. If you don't have help, teach the whoa...

I don't know what computer program you have and it probably wouldn't matter. I'm not so good with them. But if youn have a photo program, find something that say's "resize". It'll probably say it's in inchs, change it to pixels. Then change the pixel count on the long side of the photo to maybe 600p...

I've had five pointer's, a bunch of shorthairs and now two setter's. All I can say is if you want to hunt with your dog, get the shorthair. If you want to hunt for your dog, get the pointer! I use AyA SxS's and I have a Rem 870 I'll never shoot and an Ithica mod 37 I'll never part with. All I shoot for gauges much any more in 16 and 28 but have a little 410 I keep around with shell's. Keep thinking I'll try it on quail someday!

I don't believe that you can't get a good SxS for under $500. Savage has marketed the Fox and the Stevens 311. Both are pretty heavy but solid as can be. I carried a 311 for a long time. There's also the AyA Matador series. I have three, 16, 28 and 410. They are very well made and got each for right...

When she gets to you and drops the buck, kick it away immediately. do it everytime till she holds it for you. You could also back up before she drops it and take it while she's moving.
