The tube boots are meant to be left open at the end. Any debris that might enter the open end of the boot will fall out when the dog raises the foot off the ground. .....I prefer to run my dogs on launchers with no checkcord. I start them as puppies popping birds for them, if they point great, if they don't that is okay also, I just launch the bird. I do the measuring and decide the length. My vet cuts a "v" and then applies two stitches. He prefers to use silk sutures, thinks mom doesn't mess with them as much. As was said earlier, make sure you are involved or you will probably get short tails.

I could care less what they did 100 years ago, we have the technology to find LOST dogs that are already out of contention using a simple tracking collar. You tell me what they did 100 years ago, you are the one advocating no tracking collars. So how should someone find a lost dog in a field trial ...

Yeah, you can do pile work without force, even without an e-collar. But what needs clarifying on the "force" is, it's applied - mildly via the e-collar - when the dog's already moving toward the pile. That will definatly work if you stick with it, but its going to take time and then you have to have a plan when the dog comes off the check cord. This is the reason I stop to flush before the dog ever starts pointing birds, then its a simple easy progression with no checkcords (most times). The dog...
