Re: Rescued Boykin- 3-4 year old Male
I've had many a rescue . I was glad to hear you say, "This dog will not be under any pressure for a long time." He has to learn to trust you. Even playing with a toy, may make him hesitant if he has been abused/ignored in any way in the past. To encourage you, I rescued a GSP from a pet store years ...

Re: Shy With Multiple Hunters/Guns
I have a unique situation that I would like some advice on.... I searched the Forum but did not find any similar posts, so I am posting this today.... I have a 4 year old Braque Francais (French Pointer) that I have trained myself. I carefully took him through the prescribed method of gun training ...

The advice has been excellent ; sounds to me like you know what you are doing. One incident at 2 years of age wouldn't alarm me too much , but I would also follow the advice given. Enjoy your dog.

had a gsp that ate the front 2x4 door post away. It was sheeted wit 1/2 inch plywood and filled with fiberglass insulation. Stacked a bunch of green elm tree pruned branches up against the chain link. he switched to chewing on that. He had to drag the branches through the chain link. Now that's wha...

Vet wants me to use Glucosamine/ Chondroitin sulfate with my 8 year old dog that just completed ACL surgery. I understand why she wants this done. However, the dog hates both pills. I really don't want to spend the rest of his life shoving pills down his throat daily. Any suggestions on a liquid for...

We used to have a fine club in Ontario near where I lived. Participated with my second dog there and did all right. That is the great picture with your grandson. :) He's a lucky boy to have such a knowledgeable grandpa when it come to dogs and hunting. I was also so blessed. There is no "requirement" to post on a public forum that a PM has been sent. Many members do that to make sure the member sees that they have a PM as many members forget to look up at their private message alert at the top right of the page. No "dinging " coming from here. Must be a phone setting yo...

Imo how far out the dog ranges depends entirely on breeding and training. Before buying, see how the parents work. You can train a field trial champion capable dog to work at 200 yards , but why would you set yourself up for that kind of hard work? Not sure what this means: " I don't have a lot of t...

Re: Million dollar question! Setter or gsp need some help.
You'll get lots of opinions on this I'm sure , but having had a 2 GSPs and 2 setters, I was very happy with both. Both were equally trainable; training ability for retrieving etc. depended entirely on skill of the trainer and breeding ; both shed some in the Spring and Fall.
