Some may have missed the fact that in Idaho animal rights and anti-hunting groups pushed this garbage. Where there are no or few wolves the elk are holding their own where there are many the elk are declining.

Those that backed wolf reintroduction here were mostly animal rights people and most of the money to push it came from outside the state. These are anti-hunting folks and their agenda should be obvious to anyone. In short the wolves have to eat so there is less game for hunters. In the central part o...

I don't use the whoa command if the dog is trained to stand until released you don't need whoa. You might consider going back to the basics and reinforce stand until you release.

What breed? That kind of breeding is only acceptable if both individuals are perfect in every way and there are still risks involved. If there is the slightest question he may consider having the gyp aborted.

Re: Is It Time to Give Up?
All dogs are not cut out to be trial dogs. It may boil down to how bad you want a trial dog. If this individual is a good hunting dog and pet, well 2 out of 3 isn't bad. Before I went to harsh measures to break it for trials ( shocking on birds) I would just get another dog or be happy with what you...

I think how many dogs you need depends on what you hunt and more importantly where you hunt. I keep three, this works for the where and what and also for our out of state out of country hunts.

Bottom line. We shot 3/4,7/8,and 1 oz. loads in all guns at 25 to 40 yds. The 28's shot the most even patterns with the 3/4 oz. loads. We shot size 7 1/2, 6, and 5 shot loads. The best patterns at 40 yds. were the 7/8 load with full chokes. In the 28 the one ounce shot the poorest patterns ie more f...

I still use an astro and like it. Any and all info you can get on you and your dog is valuable. It may very well be an eye opener and can help on future outings. One thing I find interesting is how far and fast a dog goes in comparison to how far I walk on a given hunt.

We don't know the history of this dog. A lot of the dogs I get in are head cases that were screwed up by owners and/or so called trainers. I think we might be getting a little of topic. So I will say that if one pup out of a litter of well bred dogs makes a true all age dog it is considered by some 100%. That is considering they are run in a lot of AA trials and given a fair chance. I know that there are a few exceptions but one out of...

There is a small breeder near Emmett that might suit you. He actually hunts and his dogs look like gsp's. I think his kennel name is Idaho gsp. There is also a Kennel in the eastern part of the state called Teton kennels that might be of interest.

If you want a gsp that is pretty much a gsp you might try No-Mars kennel near Caldwell. If you don't mind an all age bred gsp which usually means quite a bit of pointer influence there are many to choose from.
