I believe you would want to talk with your local seed company or county extension office. I have found my local extension office to be very helpful! Every area of the country is different in the area of soil, temps, rainfall, etc..

Glad to hear you are excited and ready to get training. I would recommend that you pick one method and go with it. If you try to mix and match, you'll end up with a confused dog.

The bigger the better! I like some length to the pens so they can really fly some distance. If you're only keeping birds a few days to a week, what you are thinking is probably sufficient.
