IMO it is one of the best. Hickox will recommend a DT SPT series trainer, and if you go with his system of training it will really help to have a DT collar. It has very low levels of stimulation that will make things better for you and the dog. Remember, a video can not give you every possible scena...

Looking at the pedigree, I'll bet the dog will hunt. Most dogs with similar breeding do fine for the average hunter. Give him every opportunity to hunt and work on some training and I believe you will enjoy many years of hunting together!

You may want to try Elements Nutrition. They have a product to help put on weight, I think its called "E." Call Todd at 612-756-4578. He's good guy and runs sporting dogs. I've recommended it several time to friends and they have had great results.

I've got a few friends in Meade that are non-hunters, but say the numbers are good this year. Walk in areas are usually good if you hit them when later in the season and during the week.

Congrats! Also glad to hear of so many hens. Family has a farm in the Riverside, Iowa area and the rain last year really hurt the bird population. Hope to hear more good reports from that area.

Fox Feed in Santa Clarita carries hay and straw. Several years ago I found several feed stores in the area. Also look in the Burbank area. There's alot of horse in that area of LA.

Hang in there and hopefully it all goes well. When I am around other peoples dogs I ALWAYS ask where the dog is in training. I would hate to have any part in causing problems with others dogs. Hopefully the breeder will take this as a hard lesson learned.

Stop shooting! The dog needs to see more birds. Until he is aggressively hunting and chasing birds, I wouldn't start any shooting. When you do start shooting, start with some 22 crimps at about 100 yards and slowly work your way in closer. Move up to a 410 shotgun, then 20ga, and finally a 12ga. The...

I'm not sold on the idea of trap doors to slide birds in and out, just to easy to push them down from the top....You can put three launchers in one spot and simulate a covy launch. The side trap door sure makes it easy to load 2-3 quail in to a one launcher. I really don't like to set out that many...

I have own a DT 2400 series (7100 series) for almost 8 years now. I actually own 3 sets (1 dog, 2 dog, & 2 dog w/ beepers). I wouldn't own any other collar. The features and the low levels of stimulation make this the best trainers collar on the market IMO.

DT is my choice. I like the side load door and I can place several quail in one to simulate a multiple flush. Buy at least two (2) for training purposes as you'll find them more useful than just one in several situations.

There are several good liters out there or in the planning stage right now. Pick a great pup, but be sure to have plenty of birds ready to go when you bring the pup home. IMO a pup shouldn't come home until the birds are bought and ready to use!

I like the Hickox method...I believe the best thing you can do for you and your dog is to attend one of Hickox's 4-5 day schools along with the video. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

I prime mine with the red oxide primer from "Tractor Supply" and then use a premium exterior enamel. For paint I now use tractor paint and have been very happy with the results after several years. I have access to a paint booth at a friends construction company building, so I just set up the kennel...
