I took Axe to a preserve a couple weeks ago and worked with him while my friend gunned . Axe went on point and I went in for the flush. Bird got up and one shot rang out and the bird went down. Axe retrieved to my hand ! His first pheasant ! First pheasant he ever pointed also .

I myself get right in there with them if it's just he & I. But the fastest way I know is if you have another dog that likes to swim as well as play with your pup. When the other pup/dog goes in your pup will really want to join in all the fun !

I am thinking the reason your dogs head is the hotspot is because thats where they are catching their ride. Pup cuts through the brush and the ticks drop on. Tick suck ! Plain and simple . Since you have chosen your breeder perhaps enlist their help in your first choice . They could probably give you the best decision based on your wants in a dog. Puppy pick'n for me has been difficult and after the first year or so they are totaly different from when crawling around and looking cute....

Max, I like to suggest you redirect your pup when he gets unruly. Use a clicker and "charge" him. That means, get tiny chunks of chicken dogs, then one click followed by one treat in rapid succession. You will see that he assigns the click to getting a treat. It almost looks like whom ever stacked it did so with care . Perhaps it was a break down and someone off loaded the garbage to get towed and will return to remove ? Just a thought .
