I started with springers & in 1988 I switched to Britts. I helped train a good field Irish for a friend---I wouldn't mind trying one of those sometime(like the high tail) although I'll have britts forever.

Since it has been so hot, she might be digging for cool dirt to lay in to stay cooler. I've got my dogs on concrete, but if I had them on grass, they would dig an underground den to get out of the heat.

I use the nail gun blanks. About the only gun they will fit in is a New England Firearm blank gun. Caution, do not drill out a cheap blank gun to make them fit The cheap guns are made of pot metal and the nail gun has too much power--the cylinder might rupture

I'd keep him away from high dog areas until he has had 3 sets of shots. It is easy for pups that young to get parvo, etc. until their vacinations kick in. IMO I'd hold off on taking him around dogs you don't know until he is around 18 weeks old. Have fun with the pup and I hope he turns into a great...

Get a hold of a local NAVHDA chapter. Most chapters have monthly training session---You can go watch different breeds of pointing dogs and pick a breed you like. If you are running at the Lincoln shorthair trial, I think they are running a hunt test at the same time. Sounds like great advice. Since the breeder I choose will be because it is a gundog line I will ask them or ask at my local shooting ranges. FYI--- Dog doors also work good for coons A friend of mine had a dog door that went from his mud room to his back yard---got up one morning and found a coon eating dog food in his mud room. Hope you have better luck then he did
