Re: could another breed run the nat champ?
There is some truth to this statement. Breed bias and politics do exist. Argue all you want. It's not all judges but a good number of them. We GSP owners see it first hand running in small pointer trials. Imagine Ames! Why should we bother if we cant get past the smaller trials? I know some guys ha...

Like I said...not all judges. I'm not making excuses because I Just recently started running my dogs in us complete against pointers and have been accepted well. So I'm not making excuses. For crying out loud there are biases toward certain handlers out here.

Re: could another breed run the nat champ?
The hardest part of winning at Ames for a non pointer is the breed bias. And what basis do you have for making that statement? There has never been a dog run other than Setter and Pointer so...... The setters can't win it because of breed bias? This is the most common "loser" statement there is in ...

My 9 yr old bitch has gotten so bad that I give her a bowl of food but won't eat it right away. She would go outside and rather eat poop instead.

Re: Grand Field Trial Champion
Doc, I'm sorry to keep disagreeing with you but what you said about 5-7 yr olds not being FC and dogs not titled shouldn't compete. First of all, like I said earlier, if the dog can't run the hour it should not be there. Do you think a lot of handlers will waste their time if they know their dog won...

Doc, as I stated before, a dog can only earn Grand Champion points if it is already FC or AFC titled. Otherwise, a dog that is not yet titled that wins a Grand Champion stake has its points awarded toward their FC or AFC only.

Re: Grand Field Trial Champion
I like the idea. Yes any dog can run but you know the dogs sort themselves out in the hour. I wouldn't worry about non-titled dogs being allowed to enter. They need to be able to run the hour and a lot of dogs can't. If a handler just enters their dog for the heck of it then thanks for the entry fee...

Because it is unknown what causes bloat there is no prevention. You can take precaution and not exercise a dog a couple of hours before and after eating, don't feed or water from a raised bowl. With both of my dogs they ate the night before and bloated first thing in the morning. So food was not the...

Re: Bad Luck
The classic signs of bloat are restlessness and pacing, salivation, retching, unproductive attempts to vomit, and enlargement of the abdomen. The dog may whine or groan when you press on his belly. Thumping the abdomen produces a hollow sound. If the abdomen is swelling already its starting to get b...

Re: Relocating at the GSP Nationals?
I think it would depend on the wind. If the dog is down wind and getting birdy then bumps the bird, then pick the dog up. If the dog doesn't scent the bird and happens to cause it to flush and stops to flush I would keep the dog down. There is too much negative judging going on lately it really upse...

Sorry to bring an old post back. Re: Should I train my pointing dog to sit
I'm not disagreeing. Sit is the last command my dogs learn as well. Just saying, I have worked with plenty of dogs that sat on point/whoa and were never trained to sit. That's why I question the theory. I still follow it anyway though.

Re: Should I train my pointing dog to sit
JMO, I just don't believe it. The reason is that a dog knows how to sit, just not on command. Therefore, if a dog sits on point I don't think it's because it was trained to sit but rather a default position...maybe too much pressure or confusion like mentioned above.
