Re: Looking for single dog kennel/run setup ideas
Do not but the Tractor supply unless you can raise them up at least 24" for males and 4: for females. If urine gets close to them the feet and botton rail will rust in short order. I've had one of those set up behind the house for about 5 years now. It hasn't rusted at all, and it gets peed on regu...

I tried the hawk scream before, and it seemed the birds flushed out wild on the second or third scream. I switched back to the beep and the problem went away. Not a scientific study, but it was enough to convince me.

I have the 320 and really like it. I still use a TT collar with bell and beeper, and there's just not enough room on one collar for all the stuff anyway. The GPS is insurance, and to satisfy my insatiable curiosity regarding how far my dogs run compared to how far I walk.

Quickness has a lot to do with weight too - my upland gun of choice is an AH Fox A grade 16 gauge that weighs 5 lbs 12 oz. It has 28" barrels. My second favorite is a Browning Citori 525 Field in 16 gauge, also with 28" barrels. It weighs exactly 7 lbs. I find that I follow through better with the C...

12 or 20?
16!
Just because it's a 20 gauge does not mean it's going to be lighter than a 12. Weight is entirely dependent on the make & model, and has nothing to do with gauge.

A trapper friend told me about the peroxide/baking soda/dawn mixture. This summer my dogs were sprayed 7 times. I have a GSP because I've always been a shorthair guy. The hunting talent is a given, but the low-maintenance coat is a bonus here in burr & beggar tick country. I run a bell and a beeper in point-only mode. The beeper doesn't seem to bother the birds, and I can turn it on & off remotely. Frontline. It won't stop the ticks from crawling on them, but they don't have to bite the dog to die. They die & fall off after about 10 minutes just from crawling on the dog. In heavy tick areas, I also spray my dog with Deep Woods Off. That helps keep the ticks off in the first place.

Skybusting takes no skill or challenge. I'd rather work birds over decoys and call 'em in. I wouldn't say there's nothing to worry about. A dog with recurrent tail bleeds may end up with a tail that won't heal. If the tip turns necrotic it will have to be amputated.
