You also may look for a lab rescue in the area. They will normally help find a good home.

If the dog will handle, take it hunting. Have fun and enjoy. The mistakes you both make will be lessons learned as long as neither of you get physically hurt.

Make sure you and he have a bond before you turn him loose. Don't rush to get him afield until you are both comfortable.

NC Supreme Court returns gun owners rights.
The NC Supreme Court returned the gun rights to a fellow bird hunter Friday in a ruling that a 2004 law was unconstitutional and it punished him for the same crime twice over 20 years after the initial sentence. He was convicted of a felony drug offense as a young man in 1979. He served four months ...

Burchel's Dutchman is a Crow's Little Joe dog that has been very impressive with his own record and the few offspring I have seen of his are also nice. They are very dependable with a strong desire to please. Also extremely intelligent. Just my 2 cents which won't take you far.

The main reason about the open field is safety for the dogs, handlers and judges. Also, the dogs must be steady to flush (wing) but not to the shot.

Wheeless carriage opinions?
I was wondering about the opinions on the wheeless carriages versus a trailer. The one manufactured by creative sports supply has the taillights installed and a fan system. Seems like a good alternative to a trailer but I have heard some say that the dust and debris from the road are bad on the dogs...

I have never hunted on base and have not hunted on the west side of the base in many years. There were a few coveys many years ago but I don't get that many good reports anymore. The QU chapter located on base may be a good place to start. They have done a lot of work trying to increase food plots a...

Re: Have you ever been taken advantage of when buying a pup?
With a pup the age you are talking about there is no way of telling anything particularly good or bad other than physical build, sight and hearing. When buying a pup it is a roll of the dice. I would not be afraid of the pup if the breeder is in fact established. Most of the "bad deals" occur on old...

Re: selling dogs
I will leave the breeding to those that know what they are doing. Here is what has happened to me with a backyard breeding. I own a dog that people consistantly say "I really like that dog, please let me know if you ever breed him and I will get a puppy." Well, I did breed him to a pleasure gyp that...

Re: What to do when dog shuts down?
It will vary depending on her state of mind. Stop for a week and then start at the beginning. If she shows excitement, move ahead to your next step. If not, take small steps every other or third day for a week or so. You will be able to read the dog. I have "Put them up" for a month to break up the ...

Re: what is going on here
As to the debate of age, I will leave that to the more experienced. But I would not worry about the other dog finding birds after your dog came out of the field. There are a lot of reasons for that. I wish my dogs would clean a field every time they went in. My only advice is be patient and keep ses...

I agree with K-9 about backing off. Some times a little break helps set all back right.
Just a thought, if she is turning 1 yr. she may be about to come in season and sometimes that will cause changes in mindset.

One method would be to feed him and have someone shoot a cap gun at the beginning of the meal at a very LONG distance one time each day until he shows no sign of distress and then move slightly closer to get him to associate the shot with a good thing being food. There may be other, better methods f...

My son and I were planning to leave NC tomorrow and head to Junction City and hunt that area. I was reading Bobman's post about the roads in Western Kansas and was wondering if the roads around Junction City were in the same shape. I, as Bobman, don't want to waste the fuel to not be able to get aro...

Has anyone seen this surrogate technique used? We are planning to release some birds and are trying to find the best method. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The wild bird population is all but gone in our area.

I would like to take my son hunting over the Thanksgiving Holiday. We are in NC and there are just no wild birds that I can find.
