If you are looking at shorter boots, maybe look at some true style hiking boots like Vasque,Keen, Asolo, Zamberlan, Salewa or Salomon.
I'm a fan of Keen and Vasque.

Never could figure out why one needs special pants to go hunting. Everybody I know wears Jeans. I have been going more toward Carrhart Bibs as my belly gets a bit bigger. The legs need to be tailored a bit because the are huge. Comfort and light weight are most important. I don't like being locked ...

I'm also a fan of Danner Pronghorns. I have an uninsulated leather pair and a 400 gram pair. I've had both for 5 years now. I beat'em up pretty good and they still keep on going. Bemutis, with what you described I'd say a lab would be the best bet. Labs are great all around dogs. I'm not really a lab person, mainly because they are so big, but one of my buddies has a male lab that I would love to have. He is four years old and only 45lbs. He's a spark plug in the field. If I...

I think he'd be happy with either. If I was hunting strictly stocked birds and not heavy cover I'd probably go with a pointer. Dandy pup! What's her breeding? Im done working now, so I can respond a little more specific. You can always sell the extras. Around this area a person wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand for pigeons. $5-6 per bird. Fast $$ if you are already trapping them anyway.

I wouldn't waste your $$ on a Mendota. I've tried one and they don't offer much protection. You're better off not using one than you are using a Mendota. Sylmar offers free alterations.

I've shot a Browning Gold Hunter for the last 16 years or so and it hasn't skipped a beat. Not the lightest auto ever made. I've shot 3", 2 3/4 along with re-loads and never had a problem. Beautiful wood. I think they are under $1,000.
I'd also look into the Winchester SX3 or Benelli Ultra Light

We hunt a French Brittany and Springer/GSP mutt together, they do well. We do our best to keep the flusher in the heavy stuff and the EB in the open country. When the EB goes on point, I call my dog to heel and vice versa.

With a flusher they don't have time to run, they need to get up in the air. This is the primary reason I decided against a pointing breed. Where I hunt, its so thick and the birds are spooky. A pointing dog would be the same as me walking on my own - it would point and the bird would take off runni...
