Just got back from Maine - pretty warm actually for this time of year. Fair numbers of birds - not everywhere, but thick enough when you found them, and the tough cover beat me (and the dog) up good. Lots of hoofin' it to get to where the birds were, and all of it seemed to be uphill for some reason...

I'm going to be in the Rangeley area for the end of salmon season and the start of bird season.

Last year they had a really wet spring and as a result the population took a hit. Word is that weather was very good for raising pa'tridge chicks this spring so it should be improved over last year.

I have a Mossberg 835 Ultimag that only really gets used for ducks and geese. It's the only pump gun I own.

What I do to re-wire my brain to the pump gun action is go shoot some clays with it. Shoot doubles & triples. After 50 rounds I bet you won't forget to work the pump.

i disagree about the 10/22 being a bad gun i find that as long as i don't use winchester wildcat ammo in the winter it doesn't jam and they can be pretty accurate A 10/22 is capable of high accuracy if you upgrade the barrel, trigger group, and action. Well, I've got a heavy foot... I'd say my highway speed is typically 75-80. The governor kicks in at 95 MPH.
