I am giving an update in case anyone is interested. We have had Willow on an aggresive fluid therapy for 6 days. The Bun #'s have not come down at all. Still no word on the Lepto test, but the Doc said that with no movement in the blood values with a week of fuild he gave us no hope. It's going to b...

Re: Best place to buy one?

After reading this thread, I've decided that the Garmin Astro is exactly what I need to avoid a nervous breakdown when my big Llewellin is out of sight and earshot. I usually find that he's just over the next ridge and normally only 150-200 yards away. It would be comforting to me to have his range...

One thing about the skb's. The springs do get weak after time. They are considered replacement items. I had the springs on my 70's vintage 28 gauge 500 replaced a few years ago. It really improved the lock time. WDO

whitedog, how high were the BUN and creatinine values?? i would be glad to look at the bloodwork for you, if you like. Thanks, BUN was over 130 Crea was 9.4 We started her on a flush today to give her some time. The vet did say outside chance that it could be lepo. Her white cell count was NOT high...

I third the advice by Karen to get a second opinion. Barring that be sure that your vet pulls a COMPLETE blood chemistry panel to see if there are other values that are skewed. It may shed more light to the situation That said, what kind of food was she eating prior to this? I hope against all thin...

They are nice guns. I would put them slightly below the "B" guns. If you can find a deal on a new one and it fits you well go for it. That being said for some reason most times they are priced right up there with the "B" guns. If I could get a Browning or Beretta for close to the same price I would ...

Wow, not the type of news you want to hear. Does the dog show any signs of sickness or slowing down lately? I truly hope your dog gets well. In retrospect, I guess she did. Her breath was bad and has got worst. We thought it was due to needing her teeth cleaned. She has dropped some weight but that...

The vet did say that there is an outside chance that it could be caused by lepo infection. She said that if that is the case her white cell count should be elavated. It is not. Still an chance though. We are going to start her on a therapy (flush) tomorrow to see if they can get the toxins in her sy...

I found out today that my 4 yo setter has kidney failure

What a shock. I had taken her to the vet for a teeth cleaning and they had to do blood work before they put her under. The vet called with the news that her kidneys were not functioning correctly. She didn't give us much hope that she would last more that a couple of weeks. My family and I are so di...

I think the Astro unit is set up on the Garmin 60Csx platform. At least it looks like it is. I got the 60Csx back in March for a birthday present and have enjoyed it. The only place I get no signal is in a parking garage...it gets it fine inside the house and in the woods so far. It claims that "Ex...

I have also borrowed a friends Tracker radio tracking collar. That thing was only good to help find a lost dog that ran out of the county. I could never tell (with much accuracy) how far the dog was. Haven't used the GPS dealy bob but I do think when they get the bugs worked out and the system much...

Now the discussion will get interesting. My view has always been that it can't work in a thick grouse swamp. Everyone says I'm wrong and there's no problem with it. When satelites are blocked by a canopy, I don't see how it can possible work. Post on. I'm not going to be much help on this aspect. I...

I spent some time behind the wheel of the Astro last weekend. First of all, I must say that my setter does cover some ground and one of my farms has close to 20 ac. of 4'-6' high prairie grass mix. With the height of the prairie sight on her was lost within a short distance. In the past I had used a...

New Astro

I know that there has been a lot of chatter about the new Garmin Astro on this and other boards. Well, I have a friend that has had one in use for a few weeks now. After using his, I knew that I would have to get one as well. Mine was sitting on the porch when I got home from work. I am about as tig...

You'll need a beeper on those dogs out in SD. We hunted 400ac + CRP fields out there. Without a beeper you have no idea where the dog is after 30 seconds on the ground. I haven't been there in a couple of years. It just got TOO expensive. I see plenty of birds here at home. But it's nice to hunt new...
