Checking in too ealy usually fades with age. I've had dogs that check in alot while they were young and as they got older and more accustomed to the game, the lengthend their casts quite well. Is the Gent dog two years old? If he is not, he is probably running in derby stakes. Congrats on the placement though! I like the Gent dogs deposition. Is he a big runner or more of a shooting dog? Thanks. No NA test. Ross is running him in a horseback trial tomorrow and I'll be running him Saturday and Sunday in the NBHA Amateur Derby...I'm pretty excited! I just had a training dog in here with multiple warts on his mouth, some in the lips. Vet said to leave them, it is a virus and they will go as fast as they came. (Pavilona virus...)sp). Vet did put the dog on some human antibiotic. But the dog busted one open and there was good amount of blood...W...

My shorthair bumped them for most of the day the 1st time I took her...but by the end of the day she was pointing them. I agree that they have a different scent and there is a learning curve for sure.

I have very limited experience with bird dogs, only ever had 2, the 2 I currently own now....a male and a female. The male will respond to a strong verbal reprimand about the same as the female responds to a strong jolt from the e-collar. She is much much more hard headed. Go figure?? :roll: I think...

Whats the purpose of the "Pointing" video? Why do they keep picking the dog up and moving it around and then they laugh when it breaks point catches the bird? I'm assuming it was a bird, I couldn't ever see what they were pointing at and zooming in on.lovesuglydogs wrote:

Lesson of the day: Always make sure that BOTH crate doors are locked. It doesn't do a whole lot of good to only lock one....you may go to a movie and come home to this!!

My pigeon loft is in my backyard and my 2 attack the dang thing the entire time they're outside. Luckily its built pretty solid and its been able to withstand them. I just watched an episode of American Gun Dog featuring SMs. I think it was TiVo'ed this morning around 11 am. May want to keep an eye out for it if you missed it, i'm sure they'll replay it. It was pretty good, they were hunting partridge in Oregon.
