A man and his Best Friend
Very few dog stories get to my emotions because I have learned over the years that all good dogs have accidents or pass on way too soon and it is just a part of life. But this is a story that kinda got too me a little about a man and his favorite GSP. This man in the video is a guy I have hunted wit...

Here in KY our numbers are very very low. Our season goes from October to the end of February. October through the first part of January I hunted the older dogs because birds were not bunched up and those dogs didn't really need the contacts as much. Then January through February I have only took my...

Joan Bailey
Just wanted to get some background on Joan Bailey's training techniques and beliefs. What are some of her techniques and how does she go about doing them. Does anyone recommend any of her training systems?

I love KY. God Bless the Commonwealth. The Bluegrass welcomes everyone, especially those who have a special place for horses and good bird dogs, like me. Although you name implies that you a "ruffshooter", you would probably have to change your name to, "seearuffeveryonceinawhile" as our grouse numb...

One thing I like about my Honky Tonk dogs is that they are very intense on birds but at the same time so very controlled. While I was breaking those dogs out, I never worried about those dogs breaking or jumping of birds, once they hit it, they were on it and you could walk over and push those dogs ...

Just wanted to brag a little on a dog that deserved it. This is Chip and he is two year old and is seasoning quite nicely. We bred his father before he got too old and the no pups were produced. We tried again with the same female and no pups again... that was until one mourning we walked out and tw...

two of my buds use 24x24 pavers they get at lowes as a base, it works pretty good except there are cracks that need to be filled in every once in a while. but they say its a lot cheaper than pouring concrete. just that you have to dig up the ground and level it yourself with a tamper. also you need...

Well, I went the hillbilly route on this one. I built a 12x12 deck from rough cut lumber (got all the lumber for $40 so I had to get it) then urethaned the whole thing. Next, I set the pen on top and put those little shag tails in it. I will post pictures as soon as possible. DISCLAIMER: This kennel...

I have had every type setter there is. The Ryman is a bigger more "old school" setter. The ryman has a bigger head and generally wider shoulders than the other lines, generally a slower hunter. A Hemlock setter isn't much different, generally you have a better chance of getting a smaller (weight) se...

Let that dog get used to you and it's new surroundngs, and if he has IT (it referring to the natural ability to be a bird dog) then you should be able to do it. Just take your time a teach as the pups learns. I have broke a 2 year old dogs with no training what so ever so it definitley can be done a...

The Grouse Finder 3000 makes a great Christmas present... but me personally, I am getting The Grouse Finder 3000 LX! Comes with Over-head navigation, drumming ability, Grouse Camo, and Free Tri-Tronics E-collar (if you order by December)... The works! http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e89/THBE/203591...

RUFF - The Grouse Finder 2500 was made with LEAD and parts of it were poisoning children! I would advise some research be done on the parent dogs, ask people who have hunted with those parents what kind of dogs they are. Also, try to get a idea of what kind of stock they are out of, find out if or a...

Here is what I suggest... There is one breed of setter that works great in SE KY, its kind of a hybrid but a real hunter. It's genetically eqipped with thermal imaging, echo location, grouse calling, scent identification, radar, built in beeper, voice commanding, and a Franchi. Ladies an gentlemen, ...

Listen, I have hunted SE KY for years and we are in a major grouse slump. Back in the 60's & 70's, my grandfather would go out and get his limit every day, but there is no more of that. There is no clear-cutting around here anymore and we are losing what little habitat we have. Also on the rise are ...

Pups n' Pistols
Over the past 2 weeks, I have been exposing my 4 (soon to be 5) month old pups to the shot of the trining pistol to ready them for the sound of a shotgun. The very first shot I took was while they were eating and they didn't even raise their heads. I then started firing as I was going out to feed th...

I live in SE KY John and Grouse in our area are few and far in between. Back in the 60's and 70's the appalachias were full of thunder chickens and killing your limit was nothing. Now of days, habitat is diminishing and maturing. In my area especially, they have disbanded clear-cutting and it makes ...
