My gsp pup is now 5 months old and had his last set of vaccines on july 10. On the 18th I finally got to take him out on a trail and he played in the creek and then when we got home I gave him a bath using oatmeal shampoo. A couple days ago i noticed a couple of bumps on him, then yesterday a coupl...

So, I bought a 2 year old male and fixed GSP last November and have worked with him quite a bit. He has been, shall we say difficult to keep him in my backyard. I'd like to caution anyone who is using larger raw bones or deer antlers: this can wind up costing you $$ for dental work! Did y'all's dogs retain what they learned with the trainer when u got them out in actual hunting conditions? The only way they do that is if YOU learn along with the dog & the Trainer. If YOU keep consistent with the training the dog has been through, then you as a team should be good. Otherwise, y...

Meanwhile, during a field trial, how many birds to you estimate are shot, even in a retrieving stake? I think the low number would surprise many people. Both our GSPs are in obedience & learned sit, come/here and other useful commands that keep them civilized. However, as some have already said, don't expect too much out of a 9-wk-old pup. At his age you're probably better off concentrating on housebreaking with a very small amount of obedience thro...
