I have "How to help Gundogs train themselves", and liked it a lot. In fact, I've read it twice in the last year or so. Keep in mind that the book is geared toward making a versatile gun dog, and most of what is talked about is really just common sense, but all in all, I think it is a really good book.

IMO, they aren't much different from any other breed that has been hijacked by the "just for pets" crowd. One thing that I'd advise is to schedule a bit of time every few hours to stretch legs. It makes the trip a LOT nicer for both you and the dogs. Just making potty breaks stretch to 20-30 minutes helps everyone stay more settled during the ride IMO. If you do it this way a check cord is a handy thing...
