Re: Picked up my new puppy *update: training pics*
Gibby, my 14 week old pup, and I did a little training tonight on some planted pigeons and some retrieving training. Still amazed at what he's been capable of so far. His obedience has been rock solid and tonight he found 3 out of the 4 pigeons I had planted, all in grass taller than he is. And afte...

Re: Proper Weight
Most people who do not have hunting dogs think a "in shape" hunting dog is underweight. Just because there lab or whatever is 20lbs overweight doesn't mean my dog is underweight. does it matter what he is retrieving?
I am starting some basic retrieving training with my pup. He is about 13 or 14 weeks old. The problem i am having is he will retrieve a bumper (small orange canvas type) in the hallway great, as soon as we venture outside he will run to the bumper but not bring it back. So I went in our house and go...

Puppy "rough housing" with the older dog
My 12 week old puppy and 6 year old gsp have been getting along great. the only problem I'm starting to have is they like to rough house with each other, nipping ears and wrestling around. The puppy hasn't been aggressive just puppy play I guess. He doesn't rough house with myself of my wife and kid...

Have you tried searching on your local craigslist? Thats where i was able to find them for a reasonable price. If not they always sell pigeon traps, or you could call a local breeder/trainer who might know of someone that has them. good luck

I am going to switch to one of the newer flea and tick collars. Does anyone have experience with either Scalibor or Seresto? Scalibor is about half the price of Seresto but is said to last 2 months fewer. Thanks.

My only advice is just because a your dog will recall in your apartment or on a check cord that doesn't mean the pup will come when let go for the first time. This might not be as big of an issue at 9 weeks when you can keep up with him but as he gets older it could, especially if you are in a city.
