i use to trap the he** out of the pigeons on the courthouse in W. TX and i never allowed time for the pigeons to get use to the trap i just sprinkled a bunch of food around and in the trap and checked a few days later....15-20 birds everytime....I used Horsman's edge horesfeed.....seemed to work out...

no i did not use a whoa post...i taught him to whoa while just heeling him along with a checkcord on... then when he got it down pat i transitioned to the suitcase handle (checkcord with half hitch around flank) and whoa'd him while out in front of me.... then i started having him come to me and whe...

BD gamefarms in i think arizona... i'm not saying that they fly a long ways but if you get the small coke bottle they'll fly 30 to 40 yards.... and a plastic cup works good as well....the thing i like about the plastic (disposable) cup is when you go out and retrieve your birds you just poke him in ...

i've started making kinda like a suitcase handle with my checkcord (rope on collar half hitch on flanks) but before that i was picking him up and setting him back up by lifting him under his belly. I am not whoaing him into a point on birds. he will hit the scent cone and stop the only time i'll say...

another little tidbit of info: when on the checkcord heeling and i command whoa he does not sit. when he's moving across the field and i command whoa he puts the brakes on and does not sit.

yeah i had an old timer tell me that you'll see more deer when you're riding a bike down a trail than when you are actually looking for them....so he told me to get a bike and sling your gun over your shoulder and just ride for a while during the morning.

thats the reason i don't use a recall pen...you have to leave it unattended for a few hours if not overnight.. i just don't want one of these animal rights activists taking my recall pen...or even worse a fellow bird dog owner stealing my quail try a coke bottle works great for me

yeah we take a few bobcats in W. texas so a dog that could trail one would definately be a plus as well as hogs. when you get those old toms that will sit just on the outskirts of the spotlight for hours at a time it would be nice to have a few dogs to send to corner him

seeing that this is a gun dog forum and not just a bird dog forum i wanted to get some opinions on dog breeds for hunting hogs. tracking and catch dogs. I have looked at a few Black mouth Curs, ridgebacks, pits, and catathoulas. Anyone have any suggestion or any experience with it?

we used to use red cell to put weight on sick dogs when i worked at an animal clinic. it comes in gallon jugs and is mainly a supplement to put weight on horses....be very careful if you use it...it'll put weight on them very quickly
