I should have added that i think a 20 gauge is a good gauge for kids. You can get some light 20s for them to start with and eventually get to 3" 20's if necessary. Again it is a great gauge to grow up with and not be handicapped by say the .410.

remington 870 & mossberg both have youth pumps. Both great choice that will last forever and can grow with the child.
