Re: If pigeon poop was......
This thread reminds me I'm past due to shovel the pigeon poop from under my birds' loft. Feeding a very high whole-grain-to-pellet ratio, keeps their turds relatively non-smelly and firm compared to the stinking plaster pellets produce, so cleaning up after them is little more than a twice-a-year ch...

Here's deep-frying tip for gamebirds: cook legs seperately from whole breasts. Otherwise, by the time the breasts are done, the legs will be well past their flavor peake. (Can't remember which of the classic quail writers proclaimed it a sin to fry quail, but he must never have tried them deep fried.)

The fact it put weight back on your dog means it was a richer food. The stools naturally loosen up because of the richness. My question is just how anxious dogs are to drink unbaited maltodexrin or Carbo Gain disolved in water?
(Have been using a baited version called "Glycocharge," which the dogs think a great treat and drink every drop of for a few years, now, but it's not nearly so cheap as plain maltodextrin.)

When folks talk about "steady" dogs losing more cripples, I can't help but think they're refering to half-steady dogs that are still looking over their shoulders figuratively, if not literally, to see if correction is coming, rather than paying attention to business.

Re: WHY STEADY TO WING AND SHOT??
Some of it has to do with the birds you hunt. When I hunted Prairie Grouse (Sharptails)many times the dog would go on point, I'd walk in to flush the bird and one or two would get up and I'd either hit or miss it, reload my gun and have more birds go out. If a dog was allowed to break or chase afte...

Shoot, shooting time at some of Ohio's stocked areas looked like a Revolutionary War reenactment long before 1978. And the "trick" was just to wait until mid-morning with the knowledge that the mob didn't get 'em all, and a fellow with a decent dog could still have some fun.
