Re: I think i've messed up big time
My opinion (and I am rarely so harsh) is that you have messed up big time and you are bringing puppies into the world with a potential disadvantage rather than planning the litter carefully. Are both dogs perfect? If not you can expect that the things you dislike will be even more extreme but possi...

Re: Dr Tim's Dog Foods
Actually the previous post makes a nice segway to my news. Evo has been recalled several times (my dog was NOT sick and I doubt the salmonella would bother him much but...) and all the stores within an hour or so have pulled it off the shelves with no restocked date as of this time. Had tried two o...

Re: Water work
Do an intro on land first and get the dog excited. If that doesn't work at 2 years old I would forget about hunting the dog. That is the goal right, or is the OP just wanting the dog to swim for recreational purposes. I regularly put 5 month old puppies on ducks, if it is that big of a concern tape ...

Re: Water work
You can even try throwing Cheetos or cheese puffs in the water and let him splash around eating them. I love thinking like this. It's slightly outside the box, but it's aimed in exactly the right direction. Do things that give your dog a good reason to want to swim...to be in the water. The good th...

Re: Water work
Put a live duck out there and if the dog has any prey drive at all it will take over. We did it last weekend with a dog at our seminar that couldn't swim at all. I literally thought for a few seconds it might drown. It was splashing and splashing but going no where, just treading water. finally it s...

Re: Dog whines in blind
I think it's an excellent piece of advice. That undesirable noise in the blind is a training issue, just like any other undesirable act. A hunter/trainer who needs to effectively manage such behavior must have enough self discipline to pay attention to his/her dog enough to effectively train throug...

Don't spay until the dog is mature, at least 18 months. DO some research on the subject and you will see early spay/neuter causes many problems.. Having a litter will have no affect on your dogs hunting ability.

If you are going to use your dog for upland and water fowl you will probably have to just buy both books or dvd. The best thing to do would be join your local NAVHDA group and attend some training days, experience is the best teacher. When you join you will get their "green book" which covers the ba...
