Most of the ones I know use dead birds. Throw them in the freezer at night and ready to go the next morning......

You haven't lived until you turn 6or8 (more or less) good bird finding dogs loose on the open prairie and watch the show. By finishing the JH he only had to have the 4 SH passes for the title. No JH then it would have been 5 SH passes. Really don't see the reasoning, another entry fee either way and the dog already had 4 SH passes so it could do the job. JH is obviously easier though. The only thing I could think of is...

GSPDogLover is from South Africa. I think the expectations they have for their hunting dogs, field trials and test are different from what is desired here in the US and might require different training styles.

Nasty stuff all right! Pair of leather gloves doesn't help much when it is stuck to you or the dogs. I usually carry a multi-tool with needle nose pliers or a hemostat just in case. Nothing worse than wet feet. Most gortex boots will stand up to an occasional stream crossing but walking in wet grass all day is a lot different. Rubber is about the only boot that is going be totally waterproof but I haven't found a pair that are comfortable to wear all day. I quit worrying about ...

Some friends spent almost 2 weeks over Thanksgiving hunting a 4 county area around Hill City. WIHA and some private, averaged 1 phez a day and a total of 5 quail during their stay. The Texas Chapter (Ft Worth area) has a test Dec 10-11 at LBJ Grasslands near Decatur. I think, but not sure it will be mostly NA testing since the drought has depleted their duck search water. Depends how bad the bite is. If teeth have to be pulled so the dog can eat properly then IMO this is a negative health issue. Most likely he is used to seeing your hand on the bumper. When you just place it on the ground the picture changes and he not familiar enough with the step. With the bumper on the ground hold one end up slightly. Makes the transition to going downward to grasp something easier for them to understand...

Find your closest NAVHDA chapter and attend their training days. Even though you have a setter, you'll learn more about field work there than you will from any video.
