If you can find some local clubs near you ..go check them out watch handlers and dogs . It is a great way to see what you want from your dog and what you DON'T want. Then pick A method as you begin and learn it before trying other things as mixing and matching before you have A method down will only...

Re: Judging With an Open Mind
I call it positive judging, others giving the dog the benefit of the doubt. In my mind we want the best dog, not a mediocre error free one. I have heard it explained a rough diamond versus a polished stone. Example, a dog uses the wind, smartly going objective to objective, points with great style,...

In my opinion the less yacking you need to do the better. It takes time for them to get used to all the commotion of the gallery, horses, strange dogs, some guy yelling his head off, you will get to the point where when you are braced with someone like that you can just let him do the yacking for b...

Do you give your dog heartworm medicine? If so see if they have a plus version which has the extra ingredients to kill worms I personally do 1/10thcc of Ivermectin 1% solution per 10lbs of body weight and that will also take care of round worms Seen that action work when I gave pups the 2 week and 4...

Re: NSTRA Training - What to do NEXT?
As a NSTRA handler/judge and trainer. The biggest mistake handlers make with their dogs is trialing them too young . I will not enter a dog in Nstra before they are 2 years old. This game can totally unwind a young dog. This being said you need to force break to retrieve no matter how (Natural) you...

This is what I do
I begin my pups at six weeks old with 1/10 ml/cc per 10lbs body weight of 1% ivermectin solution
That dose will also cover round worms

I would let that pup chase birds until it is bird crazy and then when the pup is balistic for birds then and only then would I get a light round aimed the other direction shoot one round one round only and only when the pup is in full chase. Living in a dry climate like Arizona you're chances of the pup having heartworm are lower. If you're trying to save money use the doc Roy's roundworm remover from Walmart 5cc per 10 lbs. Parvo is what I'd worry most about and the shots at the feed store take a long time to offer full protection. Fo...

Basics are the dog can not be in motion at all till after the bird is flush
dog has to basically retrieve to with in 3 feet of the handler who can not move after the dog releases or is released for the retrieve
dog needs to back the other dog
dog can not interfere

I swear by Magic Coat shampoo, conditioner & spray conditioner. I also lightly spray with an oil sheen made for African American hair at night. Ivermectin itself will not kill tapeworms. prazinquatal is the key ingredient that you need...I get just the regular Fish Tape and give a tab a day for 3 days if it is a bad case I will bump it up to five days.
