This is an interesting topic. My buddy and I are both new bird hunters and gsp owners. He is in Texas and I'm in Maryland. We are actually considering traveling to the Midwest to hunt public lands in 2018 or 2019 when our dogs are a bit older. We have no idea where to go other than articles/forums/...

We weren't in thick brush for two days. It seems to have a good start on healing. I'm going to put new skin on it before we head into the bush again.

The danger of shooting a dog is dependent on the shooter ,not the breed or the training Absolutely, but wanting your dog to flush - and possibly jump up- at the bird , increasing the possibility of an accidental shot imo. Always had to careful with hounds as by the time that rabbit comes around to ...

Dog has a nick on his ear. He's had it for 1 month. Keeps opening it back up in the field. Any suggestions before I duct tape it?

I never had luck with my traps. A fishing net and a headlamp at night was fairly easy in a barn.

I am also new. This forum has helped me a lot and I'm confident in where I'm at with my dog at this point because of a lot of good advice on here. My experience: Ditch the pheasants. I found that they ran and made my dog unsteady when he was starting to make good progress with other birds. We hunted...

This thread is out of control. Guy is looking for a hunting partner because he is getting older and it turns into a passive aggressive attack on him and any potential partners. Why even comment if you aren't interested in what he requested?

There are good reasons to carry a handgun but I don't think there has ever been a handgun made with the stopping power of a shotgun. I checked the regs in WI and it seems to say it is illegal to possess slug or buck rounds in the field, unless deer or bear is in season and you have a permit. Handgu...

I'm a new trainer and just started getting my pup to point and be steady. Just thought I would pass along for...

Thanks so much for the clarification. We are certainly not to the point where the dog will hunt close or dead on command but he will stay close instinctively with the CC on.
Thanks again

Awesome post Ray. I've been launching pigeons for two weeks and I've seen improvement in both distance and steadiness. My question: do you lead a young dog in with a CC or let him chase the flying bird. I've done both but he seems to take pleasure in chasing the bird over the hill. My CC is only 25f...

I would support a pheasant stamp. A preserve hunt is at least $100 so I feel as though anywhere from $25 - $100 is reasonable for the service the game commission is providing. I would not be in favor of a license fee increase. Whitetail hunting on public land in PA is miserable. Sent from my iPhone ...

Never use an e-collar on any dog when they are involved with another dog. You are asking for serious trouble if you do. I have seen it happen too many times. I've never seen this situation but I have read and was told my several trainers that the ecollar will intensify this type of situation. Sent ...

Hey. Glad to be part of the forum. I've got a 9mo GSP that is headed out for PA pheasant in October. He's happy healthy and a pigeon assassin.
I've been reading the training section for awhile and finally decided to join. Glad to be here! Good luck this fall!
