Re: Garmin Astro

Hey Doug, I was using a friends hound tracker with a large fold out antennae. It worked good but was a pain in the butt. Obviously, as you know, steep hills greatly diminishes that signal too. The new gizmo is a lot easier to use. Power lines do not seem to have any affect on it. I have had the dog ...

Neil,
Does the LR antenna help much with hills. In our country that is what kills the signal.

I have said it before and will say it again here... I would choose to hunt behind a dual registered or FDSB registered Irish Setter, sometimes called a "Red Setter". It is amazing to see a cougar track that is a few days old. It is frozen and has fresh snow in it. Walk a hound up to it and he sticks his nose in the track and just bellars like the cat just ran by. A couple years ago I was hunting chukars and on the way back to the truck a storm started blowing in...

I have always given straight beef fat to a dog that is underweight. It also works good for those hard keepers, or if you have dogs that are working extra hard in the winter. Buy a few lbs and chunk it up in about 1" squares. I have never seen a dog that would not gobble it right down.

Metabolizable energy?

A question for you food guys like Ezzy.
Do the ME figures translate to anything that we can actually relate to?
Example. Food A has 350 kcals per cup, Food B has 500 kcals per cup.
So can you really feed 61% of food B to achieve the same results as food A.
