More Pheasant pics
Some more pics of Jack and I. Today was a good challenge for us, cold, windy, and an icy crust on the snow, the birds are a little more crafty in this type of weather. You can find all of the requirements for the pointing breeds on the AKC site. A brief description is that there are 3 levels. JH= Junior Hunter, SH = Senior Hunter, MH = Master Hunter. For Junior the dogs must show they want to hunt and then they have a bird field in which they need to establish but...

Well this is just to keep him steady on birds, as Pear alluded to, especially when using pen raised birds sometimes they do not fly so well, and I do not want him catching birds. I live in Illinois but Jack was in Texas as a puppy last winter and will be going again this January with Dennis Brath, h...

Here are some training pics with Jack, they were not the best scenting conditions and the birds were moving a little. You can see the quail in the first pic about 3 feet infront of Jack walking around. He initially hit it at about 10 yds off, and the bird when trying to flush walked in front of him ...

Thanks, He has some interesting markings. I had a permit hunt on state ground and they permit either sex can be taken. The hen he found right at the edge of the grass about 50 yds. from the truck. The cock was in some sorghum about 10 minutes later, he covers ground pretty quickly, and stands his bi...

Let me add something here, Pedigrees are only as good as the dog you are breeding to. Yes you may get some kind of idea as the pup you should get but still dogs within litters differ greatly, health wise as conformation wise. I will agree with a good friend ( AND VERY DOG WISE ) of mine that pedigre...

No, That was on a hunt here in Illinois today. We have had a good year so far. Jack has found 5 wild coveys of quail and I can't tell you how many pheasants he has seen already this year. Alot of the pheasants were just out running him this fall before season opened up. The Kansas trip is going to b...

First Pheasant limit
This is my first hunting season with my 15 mos. pup Jack. He did very well and had fun doing it. We had our limit in 20 minutes, I wish it could have lasted a little longer but oh well. He actually had 2 more finds walking back to the truck but we let them go to see another day. LVRGSP HAVING TROUBL...

Robert, As far as a litter being linebred off of Morticia, I am not sure of any off hand, however The Buddy x morticia cross is as close to that as you can get and it was extremely succesful. Dan hoke has quite a bit of the buddy x morticia in his kennel. Jerry Paddock has a bitch out of that breedi...

Also when looking at a sire, I will say I do look at pedigrees pretty hard. I say this because I don't look so much at who is in there but how the sire was bred, was he a product of linebreeding, and outcross? If he was linebred was it HB/HS, Niece/Uncle, was the same type breeding done more than on...

What I look for in a stud dog is if at all possible how much raw natural ability did he have as a puppy, before a trainer got ahold of him. To me must be hunted, not just playing the games, how is he producing? Does he produce winners with different females, how would he match up with my goals. I wa...

As long as I can get into some birds everyday I will be more than happy, quail, pheasants, chickens, and huns any of them would be good for me. I actually prefer late season birds. Really hoping to see how my 15 mos. old male pup is going to open up on the prairies, that is what I am pushing for. :l...

Kansas pheasant hunting
I am planning on heading to Kansas the end of December for some upland game hunting. My question is, what should I expect the weather and late season birds to be like, and where would be the best place to go? I was thinking of going to the Dodge City, or Garden City area. Any help would be greatly a...

Good friend called me from camp tonight, they have made it through 13 braces as of today. I believe he said they have 3 or 4 dogs they could use from day 1, and 1 dog from all of today, they had a rough day today, should finish up tomorrow. The temp is supposed to be mid 70's tomorrow. From my undes...
