I agree with "if it feels right get it." If the gun that feels right is more expensive then pay the extra money. You will be shooting it for a long time. I am a Browning guy. The Citori just fits. I picked up a Cynergy the other day at our local gun dealers...it fits too. 8) Browning completely reto...

I'll jump in. My first birddog was a GSP. She was a great dog. At that time I joined a local NAVHDA chapter in MD and began training her with the assistance of some fine people. She was an outstanding natural retriever and I never had a problem with her. The senior members of the chapter insisted th...

Most embarrassing bird dog moment.
Thought it would be interesting to hear about your most embarrassing moment with your bird dog. Mine was at a NSTRA Trial in GA several years ago. I had a repeat breeding done with Whipporwill's Rebel and my female Caladen's Sgt. Pepper because the first time didn't take. He was very old and simply ...

I see both sides, but I really think that kst needs to understand what the dog is doing and why before making EC corrections. If the wind is wrong and the dog bumps a bird, but stops to flush he has performed perfectly. On the other hand, if he is creeping and bumps a bird and stops to flush then it...

The dog has to learn that barking and carrying on in the crate is unacceptable behavior. I do not allow my dogs to bark, whine or otherwise act like spoiled children while crated. If they are barking or whining I issue the "QUIET!" command. That usually shuts them up momentarily until I am out of th...

We didn't see any hogs or gators but heard they are both there. We hunt in many areas known for pigs but haven't run into any. Could be all the beepers notifying our arrival. Got a call from a DNR biologist with a tip of where to hunt quail tomorrow. I'll let you know how that goes. I would also rec...

One of the GREAT things about a beeper collar is that all of my dogs have learned what the steady beep means. It means BIRDS!! They all come running to find the dog on point and if all goes well... they honor. I couldn't imagine hunting w/o beeper collars, especially in cover. I usually hunt 2...

SC Woodcock!
Just got back from three days of hunting woodcock here in South Carolina. My son and I packed our 4 pointers and headed to the Francis Marion Forest for Monday's opening morning. It was incredible. The flights were in and the hunting was nothing short of spectacular. Two of our pointers are very you...

Hopefully you will be able to prevent this from happening...but we all know that it will happen no matter how well prepared we are. When it happens to my dogs, I simply reward them for the retrieve and continue training. If they are on enough birds that fly properly, they will figure out how to poin...

Snips, I ran against a pro handler back in the 80's that carried a lanyard with 50-60 different whistles. He rode up to me and said "Best of luck" as he eyeballed my Acme Thunderer. I saw him pull one from his lanyard and he blew that thing from the moment the brace started until it was over. My dog...
