sdgord,

just wondering if the "setter" trial you mentioned might be the open to all breeds, 90th, All-American Prairie Championship running there in South Dakota currently.
One of the most prestigious trials run in the country.
A lean breed kind of trial.

My thoughts and prayers to those in Katrina's path

My thoughts and prayers to those friends and their animals in the path of this potentally dangerous and destructive hurricane.
The current news is painting a picture of catastrophic proportions as the most dangerous hurricane in 150 years.
May God bless.

John,
Thanks for the posting and putting the cover dog venue in the light that it deserves.
Trully fine, well trained, experienced dogs, that have the stamina, endurance, brains, nose, style and speed that would make most dog folk stand up and take notice.
The best to you!

Janet, I enjoyed reading about your experience at the cover dog trial. Even though I don't compete in those grouse and woodcock venues I certainly admire the dogs and the handlers that do. Sadly your fine posting has turned into someone's rant. As we've seen on other posts at other boards, those ind...

For those dogs that will be conditioned by roading and work in harnesses I think it best for them to learn how to pull and road before the obedience of heeling.
That said I don't like to do much hard pulling work with a young animal less than a year.

You're right in watching the prices.
PetSmart had lowered them to 25cents a bar this spring.
I bought all the local stores had.
I think it's an excellent product for my hunting and trial dogs.

It's one of the last things I teach my dogs to do. Obedience work like this, I believe may hinder the independence a pointing breed needs to do his job effectively. To much obedience early on makes for dogs that rely to much on their handler for direction. Most traditional field trial and good wild ...

Plastic crate comparison: Vari Kennel vs Winchester/Scott

I used plastic crates(airline type) for years. They were light easy to move and clean and seemed pretty well made. The metal crate doors show some rust after a number of years use, but they can be easily replaced. Today while shopping at Gander Mt. I saw the new Winchester/Scott overhead door crate....
