FWIW - I know for a fact, from more than one professional trainer/handler, that there are dogs that WILL NOT run when they have the Astro on. They will stay right in front of the horse and go absolutely nowhere. Put a tracker collar on the same dog and it is GONE...outta here. Can they tell the dif...

I agree with Neil....even though the prongs/training collar module are removable, the unit should not be allowed for competition.

Welcome...did you know of Tom Loy, he breeds Gordons under the Tallgrass kennel name. He lived near Grand Forks for a while, worked at the AFB. Then he moved out to Idaho.

Shags, the point I was trying to get across is that sometimes a mother x son breeding isn't as "tight" as people knee jerk to.

Now, I realize we're talking Llews here, and they are all inbred to heck, but the OP hasn't even touched on whether the dam is really wound up (as far as COI goes), or the sire to the daddy puppy either. And whether or not the mating that produced the daddy puppy is a high COI mating.

What I see the amateur do....when they don't have their dog, they stop. All the pros will ride to the front, IMO for two reasons. 1)They trust the dog is to the front and, 2) by riding to the front it opens more area for the scout to go look for the dog. The amateurs handcuff their scouts unnecessar...

Jerry,

Did you register the entire litter? Or do have have the AKC "blue" papers that need to be filled out and then sent in...I guess I could debate that the dog isn't registered until the paperwork is filled out and the $35 bones sent to AKC. As you well know, some buyers don't register their dog.

Cajun, They local Brit club and the V club have paired up over the last couple of years. They hold each hold a HT on the same grounds on the same weekend. It can be a logistical nightmare in a couple of ways. 1) Handler conflicts, 2) Dog course conflicts. Then you have to have a huge number of judge...

A divided find...As a judge, with brief consult with the judging partner, will declare a find divided. Then I let the handlers work out which will flush...and sometimes they both flush. Before they do flush, I tell them that one shot will suffice. And both handlers normally bust a cap. :roll:

Brooks, maybe the mid March date has something to do with?

I still have over a foot of snow on the ground, with 5-8 on the way by Tuesday. There isn't much dog training going on here, nor much horseback riding.

There are half a dozen shorthairs that could do it. Honest? I don't think that's the case though...look at the numbers of ES TRYING to qualify to get to Ames, much less win. On a good year what, maybe 10-12 English are in attendance? Then again, maybe the GSP's aren't there because they're not tryi...

I mean, the trial folks are obsessed with range, speed, style. That seems to be about it.
