When I started in American Field trials, I thought that when the judge said "Pick up your dog," I had to carry him all the way back to the car. My advice for a newbie at trials: Be quiet. Just because you're nervous, don't be hacking at your dog /blowing whistle the whole time. It annoys the other h...

Maybe just bad luck.
However, I had a dog getting cut up too much in my opinion. Turned out he had a vision problem. I know she's only 13 months but it wouldn't hurt to let the vet have a look at those eyes.

I can only tell you what I do. I use Huntsmith's command lead - a stiff piece of rope? You walk the dog and everytime he moves ahead you change direction quickly giving a sharp flick on the lead. After a hundred of these  the dog will start to watch you closely which requires him to stay besid...

I think you're on track. Take pup to the field and try to find some other spots. Some teasing with the wings won't hurt. Your commands around the house sound good. "Kennel up" is a good one too. Gordon's are very stubborn dogs. Sometimes they need a little pressure. It's fine to think "Let wild bird's teach him", but I'll tell you right now, with some setters I've had, I'd have a beard a foot long waiting for them to stop busting them. Use launchers and when he busts the bird, shake him up...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the scout is allowed to handle the dog. In fact, the scout is not supposed to go forward of the handler. Depends almost entirely on what the breeder has done for the past 3 months. If he hasn't socialized the pup, got her out in the field instead of in the kennel, and housebroken her, you're starting behind the eight ball and would be wiser to put that money towards a 7 week old pup. jmo ( and i can de...

Teach him a "turn ' command - whistle, word . Teach it on a check cord initially. That way everytime he's going out farther then you want , you turn him . He'll pick up what you want and learn to turn himself.
