Re: AKC Hunter titles: JH/SH/MH
One thing, the judging in Hunt tests is quite consistent. The rules are well defined and easy to understand. When I ran a lot of tests, AKC had a representative at most tests. If a conflict arose, they would settle it. Usually to the benefit of the handler. I liked prefer guide dog puppies over tri...

I switched about 6 or 8 months ago from PPP to Inukshuk and really like it. 1/3 the price, same results, and they are starting to support pointing dog sports. They will all work for dog training, feral birds work well and you don’t tend to fall in love with any of the “special ones”. The best would be birds from racing stock, because they are strong fliers and will home from a good distance if worked regularly. Helps if you need to drive to training grou...

Breeders who are serious about their breed are working hard to keep their dogs in the standard. You ...

Re: Price of a “started” dog?
For 3k you can buy a really nice 2 or 3 year old prospect that has spent a couple years on the prairie. Good bird dog, doesn't have enough run or style, or proper gait for a field trial.
I'm not sure I would spend $3000 on a 7 year old dog, especially when there are better options out there.

FWIW. My penny's worth . Urban myth that Gsp's as a breed mature any older or younger than any other. Running 3 miles on tarmac road is harder for a dog with pads than one running 3 mile on heather. Whats the difference between wild birds and a bird in a remote release ...nothing. You definitely don't need to jump to wild birds before being steady to a bird in a release.
