I just called and got a test. Sent it in and have my apprentice number. No one asked me about placements To be a judge you should have to have handled dogs to placements in AKC or judged in American Field. If I bought a dog, it's my property to do as I wished, I'll take akc paperwork with any name you told me it should have, get home and throw it in the trash after I register the dog . I wouldn't expect someone to do any different to a dog I sold them.

Re: Field Trial Question - Commands allowed?
The shouldering of a gun is something in hunt tests / not trials. For trials I will turn and look at the dog because if I don't like the way my dog looks after the bird is shot I will pick it up. Even if it isn't an infraction. For my older dog I just watch the bird to make sure it's hit. Depends on...

Re: How important do you feel Bird Planters are to a Trial?
The AKC red book suggests that birds be put in new spots between braces. I was wrong. The AKC Rule Book says to "- replace birds that have been flushed off the course". Some bird planters take that to mean the same place. A faulty memory. There should be a rule about having to plant a minimum of 75...

2000 is cheap for a pro.
So what you are saying is you don't have mediocre dogs? Just want to clarify... Have they been shot over more then 25 times and encountered more then $300 worth of birds. I'm confused?

Field trials are different then fun trials, nastra, bird dog challenge etc. It's crazy but yes, most people get excited to hunt behind a pointing dog and are in awe when it points, they or the dog flush the bird, they shoot the bird and the dog brings it back. There is a difference between a trained...

You mentioned nothing about how well they are trained but that also explains a lot . I'll skip guided hunts with decent dogs and hunt by myself or with close friends...

I would go the pro route, but make sure it is a real pro... A lot of people scam others into thinking they are hunting dog trainers and will basically steal from you. Check out some of the guys that have placed on a national level in GSPCA and NGSPA in the last year or two. Then determine who works ...
