Re: starting whoa training?
start now! every time you feed your pup hold him in one spot, no need to say a word just hold him for a few sec. do this everytime and soon work in the word whoa as he gets a little older. I do this with all my dogs and they learn whoa fast! and no pressure is needed.

Re: Dew Claws?
If its done when they are about two weeks old its a simple process but when they get older its more of a surgery. I would leave them if the dog is much older then 8 weeks. In worst case the nail will get broke off.
If it ain't broke dont fix it.

Upnorthuntin, maybe im taking this the wrong way but what your saying is that you want to run field trials but not against great dogs? Running against the best is how you know if you have the best. If you want just a hunting dog hunt test are great!

Saddle, i think seabiscuit sums that up. His trainer said he was to small, lazy and would never be anything. But in the right hands became a great horse.

Re: Speed and Stamina
upnorthuntin, the problem when you hunt a dog 3-4 times a week for 2-4hrs at a time is you will run into a dog thats gait is that of a dog that hunts all day.
Once my dogs are good on birds I road them, and maybe let them hunt for 30min at a time.

agree with ezzy.
4months you dont have to worry about him coming, just walk the other way. to much to soon and you wont have much of a stylish hunting dog.
take him where birds are and just let him run and enjoy, no need to say anything.

Ruf estimate for shingles and plywood would be $5075. Thats $15it for 4x8 and 43.99 for shingles. So you still have 2000 for paper, tar and vents. But this is just a ruf estimate.

Don't screw it up! Not sure how many square your roof is but im sure if some roofing company gave you a price for $14,000 then you would save half if not more doing it your self. So if you do screw it up you'll have extra money to fix it!
