I'm glad you found out that he likes to swim. That's a good exercise for him, especially in hot weather. I've had a lot of britts and they have ALL been high energy dogs--I think you just have a layed back calm one :D I haven't had much energy difference between my males & females. Good luck with th...

See if you can find a NAVHDA club in Alabama that is close to you. They will have training grounds, birds, equipment, & people that can help you train. They have training days & you could go to one of them to see if you would like to join the club. Good luck with your dog.

Re: Brittany Puppy Training/Bird Exposure
I used to breed about 1 litter of britts every year or two. Starting about 6 weeks old, I would start exposing the pups to dead quail. By the time they went to their new homes, I had them carrying the dead quail around--I even had a few of them bringing them back to me and getting a treat in exchang...

After you posting the picture of your dog, I'm with slistoe -- the dog looks in great shape. I also agree with a once a day night feeding, it lets the dog digest the food and they can run on an empty stomach the next day without the bloat worry JMO. Good luck with the dog.

Do a web search for-- Satin Ball Recipes. These have a lot of calories in them and should be used as a supplement after their regular meal. Re: Recommended Training/Tracking Collars
Did you update the collar when you got it? It works better if you have the latest update. Garmin has the information on their website. My buddy had to update his when he got it (his mini collar updates a different way then his regular size collar does--he has both size of collars).

Welcome to the forum. You didn't put where you live. By saying where you live you might be able to come up with a training partner who has access to birds and training grounds. In Nebraska the most common hunting dog (pointing breed) is GSP. All the trials around here are mostly AKC so you don't see many pointers or setters running in them because most pointers and setters are registered American Field and run in American Field trials. In the AKC trials it is mostly GSP. A...

About a 1/3 of the AKC hunt tests will also offer a water test. It is a pretty simple test. A dead duck is thrown out about 15 to 20 yards out into a pond with a shot fired. The handler and his dog are standing on the shore about 5 to 10 yards from the water(water has to be deep enough that the dog ...

In an AKC Junior title, the dog has to point at least 50% of it's birds. It can be a flash point(around a 3 sec point) and then take the bird out on it's own(doesn't have to wait for the handler to kick it up). It doesn't have to back another dog. It doesn't have to retrieve the bird. It doesn't hav...
