From NY to MD for NAVHDA

Hello everyone, I'm bringing Scout down to the Potomac Chapter for a NA test in April. This is the only test available before he is overage. Are there any Potomac Members her that can offer advice on the test or the area? I'm told that there is a camping area onsite and we will most likely camp ther...

Planting Birds...

Scout has a NAVHDA Na test coming up in a few weeks. I want to do some more work with him and will be picking up some Chukar in a few days to plant around the yard. This is going to be strictly check cord and point/hold training. My question is what is the best way to restrict and plant the birds? I...

Re: What to do with a broken nail

Thanks Guys, I've been reading through a bunch of posts and was deciding that I would bring him to the vet tomorrow. But I just checked him again and the piece if nail that was hanging has broken off. Unfortunately I do not have anything to wrap it with tonight, but tomorrow I'll pick up some suppli...

What to do with a broken nail

Our 1 yo Britt has a broken nail. It got into the quick because it had been bleeding but the bleeding has stopped. The broke portion of the nail is still attached but I am unsure whether to cut it free, let it go or bandage it in any way. I am going to do a search for info but wanted to start here f...

Re: Update on my Britt Pup

I'd like to add one other thing I noticed while we were out this past weekend. I normally use freeze dried liver as reward treats when working with Scout and there is almost nothing he wont do to get a reward. I tried rewarding him after a good point or retrieve this weekend and he would have nothin...

Update on my Britt Pup

A couple of months ago I posted because I was in a dilemma on whether to continue my pups training with a trainer or hold off because he was not pointing birds at all. Well since then I've recovered from my Heart surgery, lost 68#'s and have been feeling well enough to go out with Scout and hunt bir...

Re: I need to make a decision ASAP

I may have missed it in the previous posts, what has your dog been introduced to the gun??? By the way, good looking pup. Yes, he was accidentally introduced to gunfire at about 14 weeks old. At that time he showed no adverse affect whatsoever. Since then he has spent most Sundays at the gun club w...

Re: I need to make a decision ASAP

Everyone is in a hurry. Your pup has point. Your pup has bird drive. Now your pup needs to learn how to find birds. Pointing is rather pointless if he isn't finding. A preserve is not the place to do that. This makes a lot of sense, thanks for putting things in perspective. The only think that I do...

Do it yourself remote launcher

On the site cover page I read where some of the members had developed a remote launcher. I've been unable to find ny information on it though. Can someone provide a link to any information on this project. Thanks.

Re: I need to make a decision ASAP

I'm posting the following for the benefit of some of the commentators here... This picture was taken at 10 weeks old back in March about 10 days after we got the pup. Since our clubs preserve is only about 2 miles from home I decided to bring the pup over during a Sunday hunt to introduce him to som...

Re: I need to make a decision ASAP

Thanks All, I am a bit jealous of some of the areas that you all have to work with. Unfortunately trying to find wild birds anywhere in this area is next to impossible. At least on land available to the public. I have put some feelers out to a few of the local farmers to what I can find out.

I need to make a decision ASAP

hi everyone, I know I could probably spend time searching rfor the answer to this but I honestly do not have the time right now. I have a 9mo Brittany. "Scout" has been a great pup and looked to be very promising. 4 weeks ago I brought Scout to a reputable trainer to get him started on live birds. I...
