I would think you would have to home them to the trailor in one stationary spot first with the flag up constantly. Once you've trainined them to home to the trailor while its in one spot consistantly, I would try moving it, maybe to the end of the street if you can. Then leave it there and have the ...

You should start with the doors up for at least a day or two. Just make piles of bird seed or peanuts in the cage and sprinkle just a light dusting around the cage and especially in front of the open doors. The pigeons will quickly eat the outside away and now that you've wet their taste buds, they'...

HOAL benefit trial
I received an email from a member of a PA NAVHDA chapter telling about a noncompetive field trial to raise money for Hunt of a lifetime. Are any of you other Pennsylvania NAVHDA members going to participate?

I've hunted behind vizslas before. They're real nice hunters, beautiful dogs as well. But when this vizsla was younger, say a year and a half, it was real timid and didn't want to range more than 10 or 15 yards. Buckeye, is this characteristic of the breed, to be real clingy when they're still young...

What does "able to be registered" mean?
I was looking at the NSTRA website and trial rules. It states that to run Ameature Trial, the dog doesn't have to be be registered, it just needs to be able to be registered with AKC etc. What does this mean. The dog needs to be purebred? Thanks

It is rare to have pigeons lay more than two eggs. So chances are,(I'm assuming that the first egg is by itself), that the first is not fertile and the two eggs together(there I go assuming again) are a clutch and were probably brought on by the first egg being laided by a different hen. Those most ...

What you could probably do, I haven't ever tried it though, is to get a couple clay pots, like terra cotta, and put that in there with straw or something. If you move the eggs the pigeons probably won't accept them. And as far as I know, pigeons can't pick up eggs so these probably won't hatch. But ...

If you've got breeders and chicks, I would band the breeders and never use them for training. The chicks will be able to fly in less than a month and they will certainly home to your loft natually with little technical training. Just take the chicks that can fly to......the stop sign at the end of t...

NAVHDA:Hows it work?
I know this is probably a stupid question being that practicly everyone on this site is involved with NAVHDA. How does it work. How do you become a member and what are the requirements. I saw that they have training days at the local SGL here in PA and that sparked my interest. I hope I'm not biting...

Water squirt bottles work great! You can ambush him from a distance and get him when he's not expecting anything. How much more fun can it get? Also, there's this body harness type thing that attaches to both legs and keeps him from jumping by making him land on his butt when he does. But its probab...

Freezing sounds very gruesome and I've never actually attempted it, but freezing alive is the same way they kill mice or rats or rabbits or even quail sometimes for the pet industry (snake food). I asked a pet shop worker and he said that the animal will go into a coma after it becomes numb and will...

Frozen Birds
Whats the best way to freeze a bird? Do you kill them first or tie their wings down and freeze them alive? Freezing them alive is probably the most humane, because eventually, they'll get so cold they'll fall asleep and die in their sleep. Is this true?

I was just running my dog once on some power line roads. Apparently, somebody was trapping down there and had their snares out. Duke ran right on one of the game trails and got his nose caught in one of the snares. Right around his nose. I would have been funny except for the fact that he got a pret...

Luzerne County also has some good grouse populations. Get into the swamps back on SGL 187 I think it is and you'll be sure to bump one or two. Or, work the open paths as soon as the morning sun starts to warm them up and every grouse in the woods are out there sunning themselves. Don't even need a d...

Getting Pigeons out of the loft
How do you guys with large lofts get the pigeons out of the loft. Not five minutes ago, I went to try to net a couple of pigeons to train with and as soon as they got wound up about the net coming in, they took flight and all my pigeons that I spent long nights catching took off to the next county! ...
Look at where the township you live in stores salt for the winter months when they plow the roads. At ours, theres about four dozen pigeons at any given night. They use the salt for grit and for minerals. But wear dirty clothes when you have to climb up the large pile of salt. Just ask permission fi...

He does seem to only chew his back feet. We recently changed his food from puppy to adult so that could be the issue. We tried to do it gradually, mixing half and half and he took it well. As for allergies, he hasn't ever had a problem before, and his pads don't look red or irritated when you touch ...
