Re: How to get barrel off of Old Ithaca Model 37 ?
Don, thanks. That sure is the opposite of an 870. So - do you tighten up the barrel for shooting by turning the knob, at the end of the slide, all the way counterclockwise, until it is tight, and do you use the bar that slides in & out of the knob as a lever to tighten it good? Also, how do you know...

How to get barrel off of Old Ithaca Model 37 ?
I have an old Ithaca model 37, serial number about 11900, which I believe was around 1949? I had a replacement barrel put on it this year because the old barrel had a bulge in the end. The gunsmith cut the end off of the old barrel & sent that back, too. The gunsmith told me that I could change the ...

Re: Cold Weather Shelter
The key is a good insulated dog house with just enough room for the dog (or dogs) that live in it, with a door (spring loaded work really well) to block the wind and if you can put another wind block inside the door to make like a room for the dog to go into, you're in business. My experience is wit...

Re: cocker spaniel can they be good hunting dogs/ retrievers?
Field bred English Cockers are as much bred for the field as Field Springers. In fact, if I'm not mistaken I've heard in Canada, their hunt tests or field trials can include both & the Cockers have recently dominated.

Automatic clay target throwers ?
Looking for an automatic clay target thrower that I can take out & use by myself. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend the one Cabella's sells - the "White Wing Automatic Trap Thrower". Pro's & con's - thanks.

Anyone have any experienc with a Fausti SxS
Just curious abut the Faustis & if they're good guns. You see a lot of advertisements on them. I'm not that familiar with SxS's. Whats a CZ?

Re: Purina Pro Plan -> loose stools
Keep an eye on him & see if he's eating other things (like leaves & grass); this can cause increased & loose stool. I have 2 dogs. I feed them both the same amount of food. One has two times more droppings then the other & its loose and green tinged. This one is always eating other things when out o...

Re: Can a Flushing dog be used in Grouse woods?
Thanks, I've been leaning toward picking up a Boykin & was wondering how it would work on Grouse up here in Michigan. I'm looking for a mid to smaller size dog thats easy to train as a bird hunter and would also be a good family pet.

Can a Flushing dog be used in Grouse woods?
I'm new to bird dogs. Can a Flushing dog be used proficiently in the Northern Grouse woods? Just looking for some talk on how this might work. I imagine the dog would have to hunt close, but would like to hear thoughts.

Re: Close working pointing breeds
I went and dug out this GSP's old pedigree. He was out of:
Fch Checkmates Dandy Dude X Lady Luv Vonhohentann
Anyone hear of either of these dogs & can you give any information?

Re: Small gundogs
Thanks for all the info. I'm curious now, too, about a 200 yard ranging dog. I could see (maybe) using it on the great plains, but unless you have a GPS attached to it, it seems like you would be hunting after the dog all the time rather than the dog hunting for you. I can't see using a dog like thi...

Re: Small gundogs
Ray, I got to thinking; I've never seen a hyper Lab. Do Lab's make decent flushing dogs? (Probably same comment for a Golden).

Re: Close working pointing breeds
I read whats being said about GSP's being crossed with EP's & found it interesting. (I'm new to this site & currently don't have a dog). In 1976 we picked up a GSP. It was a nicely built male and it came from Colorado. I've been looking lately at the GSP pic's on various sites and I was surprised at...

Re: Small gundogs
A Brittany was the choice we had originally made until we heard a few comments on their hyperness. Now we're re-thinking that decision. Is this hyperness true with all bloodlines of Brittany's ? (I also heard that their range can be 100 to 200 yards, which surprised me. That is too far for what I wa...

I'm new to this site & was hoping to get some opinions: What is a smaller dog breeding, that can be used to hunt birds & is being bred to hunt, but is also a NON-HYPER house pet, AND that hunts close & is biddable. The non-hyper house pet part along with the hunting close part & being biddable is ve...
