Re: Proofing a Steady Dog

Thanks for the video. You titled your post "proofing a steady dog." What do u consider steady? In my view, your dog failed to be steady when it first scented the bird, stopped movement, but then took at least 7 steps toward the bird. I can't see too many wild Kansas pheasants sticking around for tha...

Make sure you have plenty of heat for that many chicks and don't have any square corners. When quail get the slightest chill, they will start to pile on top of each other an suffocate. Also, within a few weeks they will be flying in the brooders so be sure to keep them from getting out. Good Luck! I...

Pro vs Amatuer Status Question

In Kansas you are required to have a "professional Dog Trainer" license from the Dept. of Parks & Wildlife if you want to release quail for training during the non-hunting season. I would like to raise some (100-200)of my own quail for my personal use this summer. If I do so, and purchase the licens...

I like the dogs (especially after a skunk encounter) to be in dog box in the bed. IMO I would go with a 4 door 4x4 pickup. Trailers are a hassle sometimes on narrow back roads or muddy farm lanes. Just returned from the Carson, ND area last week. Bird numbers are down in the SW part of the state due to the huge snowstorm in early October.
