I use pigeons in the beginning simply due to cost savings. Re-use the same birds over and over. You can also re-use quail with recall, but I think homing pigeons come back better than quail do. Once I have a dog ready to shoot birds, I switch to quail. I am sure lot's of folks do it lot's of differe...

I can tell you that with grain prices especially corn being up like they are that you can expect bird prices to rise this fall. I raise a few quail and pheasant. Granted, it is a smaller operation. I can't afford to sell quail for less than $4, and we usually get $5. On pheasants, we usually get $10...

Kennel Construction
I am getting ready to put a new Kennel together. I want add a new building for keeping my ATV, launchers, checkcords, and all other training gear. Off the building I am going to add a dog kennel for my 3 shorthairs. I plan to use a concrete slab for the floor under the kennels. I am mainly intereste...

I have 3 above ground kennels, and I think they are great. As far as feet issues, I haven't noticed any -- In Fact -- I was watching my dogs the other day walk in a circle inside the kennel, and each and every step was taken on the floor joist (2x4) instead of just the wire. I think they must learn ...

I think 5 weeks is too young. The idea is to rear them until they are fully feathered and can live in your climate without a heat lamp. For my part of the USA, which is northern Ohio, it seems like 8 weeks is the right age. It's nice to if he could create some safe havens for them. Take an old roll ...

I have an Owens DIY box also. It works great for what I need. If I remember right it was around $200 for the kit. It came with all the metal diamond plate steel peices and you needed to get 2 sheets of 1/2" OSB and a can of paint. Nice to be able to fit this in the back of my Jeep. The 48" model was...

Ring-Neck Pheasants
I have about 40 or 50 Ring-Neck roosters left in my 2007 inventory that are going to the Hillsdale, MI auction this Saturday. If anyone wants a good deal, get a hold of me before that. Otherwise, come to the aution and bid up the price :) You could either pick these up here in the Toledo, OH area or...

Classic 70 EXP
I prefer the Classic 70 EXP for one main reason. It is only a factor for people that want to control 3 dogs (or more) at once. It is the only TT that I know of to have a big button for each collar for 3 dogs. It has a simple toggle to control the other 3 collars using the same 3 buttons. So many of ...

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet or not, but a chip (or in some cases a tattoo is acceptable) or other unique ID is required for many DNA tests or OFA tests in addition to all the other reasons to have a dog chipped. Chipping is a no brainer. My vet uses the AVID chips. I think they charge me a...

Force Fetching (at least in my experience) has seemed to cure my GSPs from dropping birds/dummies/sticks etc. before bringing it absolutely to hand. Fetch - Hold - Give are the commands I teach using the ear pinch method. I had one dog completely FF'd in 3 days, and had another dog take over a month...

Brutus earns JH
My pup Brutus earned his final leg of JH today. He did a nice job during the entire process. He ran earlier this month at age 6 months, 1 day for his first leg. Today, 6/24, he is JH and still 1 week before he turns 7 months old... Proud papa... Maybe he will be ready this fall or next spring for SH.

Assume for a moment that it did work and Exxon couldn't sell, and had to drop there price. How many would still not buy their gas once the price lowered? Everyone would be lined up to buy the cheaper gas, which would drive the price right back to where the market currently has it, in about 3 seconds...

I like the above ground kennels by TE Scott. They are available at many online shops. The come in 6ft and 8ft varieties. I will post a pic when I get one. I have 2 of these now and they are great. Floors are grated so whatever needs to fall through, does. They also have a kennel box on the back with...

I pretty much stick to high-8's on about all small game birds including pheasants. I like to bring them down but not tear them up too bad.
