Re: Time to Fully Train a Brittany
If one has a well bred Brittany how long would it take a professional trainer to fully train that dog for hunting? Now I know it varies based on the quality of the dog, the trainer, etc. But in my discussions with trainers and fellow hunters I am hearing a range for 1-3 months for a fully trained p...

Re: Dog not "going with" me
Hello all. I apologize if this has been addressed in another thread, but I could not find anything specific to my situation. I have a 4 year-old drop (irish setter x english pointer). She has TONS of drive, steady to wing-shot-fall, and has a mediocre nose (not sure if any of that is relevant). My ...
Re: roading
Hi All - Anyone have recommendations for a roading harness to be used with a mt. bike? Also at what age can my pup be safely exercised this way? He is going on six months (which seems too early to me) but I'm just trying to get an idea when it would be safe based on development. Thanks! Free runnin...

No reason to let her chase birds, unless she lacks prey drive. pretty soon you will probably have a flusher if you just let her chase. the recall Won't make a whole lot of difference. Re: Whoa Post-Neck vs Flank
I also use the hunt smith method. The point of contact on the flank is solely for whoa which i think causes less confusion early on. Once pup "gets it" then it all transfers to the neck just as a reminder. Plus if pup forgets which they all do sometimes. You can quickly go to hslf hitch on flank or...

Hey everyone looking for some advice/guidance from those more experienced than me. We are getting a puppy from the litter that a friends female had. Consider searching EBay for used / reconditioned Garmin / Tri Tronics GPS collars. They wear like iron and early generations have less bells and whistles.

How long to leave pup with a trainer?
I got a GSP in July and dropped her off with a trainer in August, she was right at 5 months old then. The guy still has her and is wanting to keep her through November. When I dropped her off, he told me that exceptional dogs will be ready in 2 months, some will take 4, and some never make it. The ...

I had Springer's all of my adult life until my last Springer passed. An old friend and childhood hunting buddy recommend that we try a Brittany. We did and never looked back. Great hunters, family members, and sweet dispositions. That's all I wanted.

Interestingly enough, Gibbons and trainers using the West method don't use the whoa command. I used the Smith whoa post method for years but have recently been using Ray's method with just a regular 1" leather collar, no pinch no pigging string.

I've had similar problems. I noticed you said "one" of my dogs. Do they eat together? Feeling competition and rushing? Do they eat in separate areas? Put her feed in a large shallow pan. I just spread the feed out on my concrete dog run floor.
